🩵⚡TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY: LESLIE DAVIS🩵⚡
For years, Leslie poured her time and energy into everyone around her, always finding a reason to put herself last. Five years ago, she made a decision that would change more than her fitness: she started making room for herself, even when life was busy and the excuses were easy to find. Her transformation isn't about having fewer responsibilities or more free time, but about realizing that taking care of herself deserves a place on the list, too.
"Before Burn, I tried so many gyms, diets, and weight-loss medications, hoping to find something that would keep me motivated. But nothing seemed to stick. No matter what I tried, I struggled to make taking care of myself a priority.
There was always a reason to put myself last (or leave myself off the list altogether). I have a demanding career, care for elderly family members, and help with running my husband’s companies. I’m also a wife and a mom raising two young girls who are both involved in sports. Between their schedules, church, volunteer activities, and making time for friends, my days fill up quickly. Then there are the perimenopausal years and all the changing hormones that come with them. With so much going on, it was easy to tell myself that I would focus on my own health when life slowed down. But there was always another responsibility, another commitment, or someone else who needed me.
Five years ago, I joined Burn. What still amazes me is that, five years later, I remain motivated to go regularly. After trying so many things that didn’t hold my attention, finding something I continue to make time for has been a transformation in itself.
My life is still busy. I still have many of the same responsibilities, and I still have plenty of excuses I could use to skip camp. The difference is that I now make room for myself alongside everything else. I don’t have to wait until everyone else is taken care of or until my schedule is completely clear. Sometimes, making that happen means going to bed early so I can wake up at 4:30 a.m. It takes planning and a willingness to make choices that support the time I’ve set aside for myself. It isn’t always convenient, but I’ve learned that taking care of myself deserves that effort.
Burn works for me because of the people, the camp format, and the convenient location. Those things make a difference in my ability to keep coming back. Having a place I’m motivated to attend (and that fits into my life) has helped me build the consistency I struggled to find before.
When I think about my transformation, the biggest change is how I view making myself a priority. I love my family, and I care deeply about my responsibilities. But caring for everyone else doesn’t mean my own needs have to come last. I can’t give everyone else the best version of myself if I’m not taking care of myself, too. Five years at Burn have helped me put that belief into practice, one camp at a time."
