๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Currently training for my first marathon

6 weeks of marathon training and 200+ miles in the books! โœ…

Officially a third of the way to the starting line and still putting in the work to (hopefully) show up healthy and ready to go in November.๐Ÿ…

And while I thought about not getting ahead of myself (since injury has sidelined me before), Iโ€™m also learning the importance of recognizing and celebrating the work while youโ€™re still in the middle.

So, today, Iโ€™m looking back on the past 6 weeks (+ many months of running) and this really interesting and exciting journey of marathon training thatโ€™s stretching me in ways I wasnโ€™t expecting ๐Ÿซ  and teaching me a few lessons along the way.

Iโ€™m obviously no pro, but here are a few things Iโ€™ve been learning during my many runs:

1๏ธโƒฃ Consistency is everything โ€” and if you want to be consistent, you have to be adaptable. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Life will get in the way. Some mornings you will be overly tired and sore and completely unmotivated. But showing up (especially on days when you donโ€™t want to) and leaving perfectionism at the door๐Ÿšชis the only way to make real progress and achieve any goal you set for yourself. And if Iโ€™m being honest, this is a lesson I have to keep learning over and over.

2๏ธโƒฃ Fueling properly ๐Ÿฅ— and strength training๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ are NON-NEGOTIABLE. And if youโ€™re having a nagging issue, find yourself a really amazing PT (shout out to @valleyptandsports for getting me back on track. Canโ€™t recommend them enough! ๐Ÿ’ฏ).

3๏ธโƒฃ Find joy in it all, and let those joys be simple. ๐ŸŽˆ A new audiobook or playlist, a different route, running with your kids or a friend. Keep the process as fun as possible and celebrate the small wins in ways that feel good to you.

4๏ธโƒฃ Trust the process and how itโ€™s shaping you. โœจ Because some runs will feel amazing, others just plain suck โ€” and accepting that thatโ€™s normal is the only way to not throw in the towel. ๐Ÿ˜ The key, for me, is allowing space for it all and remembering the deeper motivation: itโ€™s not just about the miles, itโ€™s about who youโ€™re becoming along the way.

Thankful to be feeling strong 6 weeks in and looking forward to what else Iโ€™ll learn along the way.

Hereโ€™s to 12 more weeks till Richmond! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธโœจ 08/26/2025

Hi again ๐Ÿ‘‹ Itโ€™s been a while, and so much has changed.

Iโ€™ve gone from a small business owner to product marketing leader and messaging strategist. Now Iโ€™m in a new season of transition and have been finding the clarity and inspiration Iโ€™ve been looking for in the miles Iโ€™ve been logging.

Between the early alarms โฐ and long runs, Iโ€™ve been learning a lot about myself and the power of showing up, even when itโ€™s messy.

So Iโ€™m back with one desire: To share, reflect, connect, and stay present as I step into a new season of life and work.

I'm hoping I can use this space as an opportunity to build community and share more about everything I love, which means Iโ€™ll be talking about:

๏ฟฝโœ๏ธ Writing, messaging, and storytelling โ€” both in business and life

๐ŸŒฑ Leadership, coaching, and growth

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ What Iโ€™m learning, thinking about, and working on โ€” especially as I log the miles toward my first marathon.

If youโ€™re into moving your body and your ideas forward โ€” and finding the story and lesson in it all โ€” Iโ€™d love to connect.

Iโ€™m thrilled to be back and so happy youโ€™re here.

xx. Sarah

Iโ€™m a 30-something mother of two ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿป with professional coach training and a decent amount of self-awareness, and I STILL catch myself doing it. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธโ
โ
And every time, Iโ€™m reminded of 1๏ธโƒฃ how easy it is and 2๏ธโƒฃ how bad it makes me feel. โ
โ
So, this morning, I had to remind myself that the only thing I should really be comparing is how Iโ€™m showing up today and whether it reflects the life Iโ€™m trying to build. โ
โ
Because if thereโ€™s a disconnect there, itโ€™s a breading ground for discontent and misplaced comparison. โ
โ
But more importantly, itโ€™s a sign that someting is off within ourselves. โ
โ
A big, red-blinking sign ๐Ÿ›‘ that thereโ€™s inner work to do to realign todayโ€™s actions with tomorrowโ€™s goals. โ
โ
So, letโ€™s not compare ourselves to people on the internet. Letโ€™s only hold ourselves up to the versions of ourselves we most want to be. โœจ

I was in the middle of an semi-anxiety spiral ๐Ÿซฆ when these words came to my mind.โ
โ
You see, I'm going through a season of change right now. And in case youโ€™re wondering, change is hard. ๐Ÿ™ˆโ
โ
A few weeks ago, I shot my very last wedding and officially closed down my photography studio, ๐Ÿ“ธ my first business. โ
โ
I'm also making some major changes over as I shift away from content management to focus more on messaging strategy.โ
โ
At the same time, I took a new contract position with a global leadership communication company to lead storytelling workshops.โ
โ
And Iโ€™m working to grow my own coaching practice, which is an another adventure in and of itself.โ
โ
But even as I move toward these things that feel โ€œright,โ€ Iโ€™m being constantly reminded of how hard change can be. ๐Ÿ˜ซโ
โ
Because in order to say yes to something, even those things that are calling you, you have to put down other things.โ
โ
And even when you know itโ€™s right, letting go of those things isnโ€™t always easy. โ
โ
Because it's at that moment when you finally decide to stand up and start moving forward that all the questions start to stir up. โ
โ
Making you wonder if you should have stayed.โ
โ
Making you question every step. โ
โ
Making you feel like it was all a terrible mistake to go on this new adventure.โ
โ
But just because itโ€™s hard to let things go and just because moving forward is scary doesnโ€™t mean you were meant to stay. ๐ŸŒŸโ
โ
Standing up and walking forward just means youโ€™re leaving your comfort zone, and of course the doubts and the questions and the fear come with it. โ
โ
But just because it would have been easier doesnโ€™t mean it would have been better to stay.โ
โ
Just because youโ€™re doubting it all in this moment doesnโ€™t mean that this new chapter you're writing isn't what you're meant to be doing.โ
โ
And just because itโ€™s scary doesnโ€™t mean this canโ€™t all be a new and exiting adventure. โ
โ
Because sometimes you have to say yes even before youโ€™re ready. โ
โ
And sometimes, that's the bravest thing you can do. ๐Ÿ’•

Today, I have an EXCITING announcement! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿฅณโ
โ
Something I've been working on for over a year is finally HERE!โ

โ
โ This program is the culmination of years of experience helping businesses and nonprofits from various fields develop their brand story. โ

I believe there's power in sharing our stories. โœจโ
โ
Stories help us make sense of the world. And ourselves. โ
โ
And if you happen to be a business owner or leader, stories help people understand you better and get to know the person behind the brand. โ
โ
But the journey of claiming and sharing your story also helps you understand yourself better, too. And that, alone, is powerful enough. โ
โ
That's why I've been working on a NEW PROGRAM that will help you connect with your deeper purpose and allow you to harness the power of storytelling as you build a recognizable brand. โ
โ
And I can't wait to share it with you all tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’•

You likely started a business because you had something of value to offer. โœจโ
โ
You has an idea or a service or a product that you knew could serve someone. โ €โ
โ โ €โ
But if you were anything like me in my first business venture, you might have been surprised to find that creating your product or offering your service isn't enough, because there's another whole side to being a business owner that requires a lot of time and attention. โ โ €โ
I'm talking about what it takes to market your business.โ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
I'll admitโ€”marketing sometimes gets a bad rap, at least when we think about the overly sales-y, pushy type of marketing that many of us have come to dislike. โŒโ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
But I want to invite you to look at marketing differently ... through the lens of ๐’ˆ๐’†๐’๐’†๐’“๐’๐’”๐’Š๐’•๐’š.โ
โ โ €โ
Your idea, service, or product is a solution to someone's problem. โ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
Someone out there in the world right now is looking for exactly what you're offering. โ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
They're facing a challenging situation or experiencing a difficult emotion and they're looking for something to solve it.โ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
They're looking for ๐’š๐’๐’–. โ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
But you have to make sure they can find you. You have to make sure your solution gets into their hands, at exactly the time they need it. โฑ๏ธโ โ €โ
โ โ €โ
So ask yourself: ๐‘พ๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’˜๐’๐’–๐’๐’…
Because from that place, marketing begins to lookโ€”and feelโ€”quite different. ๐ŸŒŸ
