This weekend, the St. Albans community gathered to say a final goodbye to Vadim Medish ’12.
Vadim was an accomplished oarsman, racing in the Varsity 8 when St. Albans won gold at Stotesbury in 2011. Beyond the boathouse, he was a prize-winning artist and filmmaker and a talented guitarist.
But those who knew Vadim remember him just as much for who he was as for what he accomplished. His teachers described him as a “true gentleman” who “wore his success lightly,” and whose “modesty and sincerity” were as defining as his many achievements.
In 2016, St. Albans Crew honored Vadim by naming a boat after him. For nearly a decade, that shell has carried his name, and his legacy, down the river. It has introduced generations of St. Albans rowers to the sport Vadim loved and has earned its own successful place in the history of the team.
Every time that boat takes to the water, a little bit of Vadim’s story travels with it.
We are grateful to remember Vadim, to celebrate the life he lived, and to continue carrying his legacy forward.
