🏆 A Special Weekend at Heritage Hills

On July 27–28, Heritage Hills was incredibly proud to host the 39th Eastern Amputee & Adaptive Championship.

What an inspiring two days of golf, competition and camaraderie. We were honored to welcome this group of athletes to Heritage Hills and be part of the very first championship here at the Hills.

And it turned into quite a finish for two of our own!

🏆 Zachary Grove — Champion
76–76 — 152 (+10)

🥈 Tucker Haas — Runner-Up
77–76 — 153 (+11)

ONE STROKE. That’s all that separated Zach and Tucker after 36 holes, with Zach taking the championship by the narrowest of margins.

Congratulations to Zach, Tucker and every player who competed. The scores tell us who finished where, but the group photo tells the bigger story — a tremendous group of golfers coming together for a championship we were genuinely honored to host.

Thank you to the Eastern Amputee & Adaptive Golf Association, the competitors, volunteers and everyone who helped make the inaugural event possible.

We hope this was the first of many. ⛳️

Golf balls may look like simple pieces of plastic, but making one is an incredibly precise manufacturing process. It typically starts with a polybutadiene synthetic-rubber core, which is mixed, shaped and compression-molded under carefully controlled heat and pressure. More advanced balls can then receive additional mantle or casing layers that help engineers control speed, spin and feel.

Next comes the outer cover. Depending on the ball, manufacturers use durable ionomer plastics or softer urethane. The cover is molded around the inner layers, and the mold itself creates the ball’s famous dimple pattern, which is carefully engineered to influence its aerodynamic flight. Premium urethane covers can even begin as liquids that chemically react and cure around the ball. ⛳

Afterward, balls can be buffed, painted, stamped and inspected. Manufacturers such as Titleist and Callaway even use X-rays and automated inspection systems to make sure the internal layers are properly centered, because tiny manufacturing differences can affect how consistently a ball flies. Something golfers routinely lose in the woods is actually a surprisingly sophisticated piece of engineering.

Woody being placed to his final resting spot on Hole 1.

A Heritage Hills icon has made its way to the first tee! 🌳⛳

“Woody” pays tribute to the original 12-foot golfer carved from the legendary Heritage Tree—a massive oak that measured six feet across and was so remarkable that the course builders designed the golf course around it. After the oak died, professional wood sculptor Dennis Beach transformed part of the tree into the original Woody in just 24 hours.

Today, you’ll find Woody at two locations across the course—overlooking Hole 17 and now welcoming golfers at the first tee with this new replica crafted by Cedar Mountain Designs.

Be sure to say hello to Woody at both of his Heritage Hills homes!
