We’re spending the weekend at Dinokeng Camp & Leisure Lodge to do a last shakedown before we leave for Namibia later this month. The first night went really well, and we’re enjoying a relaxed weekend away from the office.

The boys each brought a friend along, so while we’re comfortably set up in the caravan, they’re having their own adventure camping in a tent. Lots of laughter around the campsite already!

So far we’re very impressed with Dinokeng Camp & Leisure. The campsite is neat, the facilities are well looked after, and it’s a great place to spend a weekend. We’ll definitely be back.

Now for a weekend of relaxing, testing a few things, and counting down the days until Namibia! 🏕️🚙

We’re really enjoying our camp at Bushbabies Lodge in Dinokeng. Big stands, private bathrooms and each stand has its own boma — such a nice setup for a relaxing weekend away.

Today we spent the day driving around the reserve and stopped at Arlington for lunch. Having an 18-year-old, we know how important driving and gaining experience is for teens. The two kids came along in Seth’s Jeep while we followed in the Prado.

As most people know, Werner still absolutely loves the Prado, even though we upgraded to a LC300. The Prado has almost become a BorderX mascot over the years — these days mostly serving as caravan hauler, workshop runner and general “do everything” vehicle at BDX.

But today was another good reminder of how important regular checks and maintenance are on any off-road vehicle. While driving off-road we suddenly heard a very strange noise. After stopping to inspect, we discovered the bash plate was literally hanging on for dear life by one bolt. Luckily we caught it in time and could remove it before it caused real damage.

Another important side note: the Prado’s reliability and simplicity is exactly why it still remains one of our favourite vehicles for trips like these. Old faithful still doing what it does best. 🚙🌿

We’re spending the weekend at Bushbabies Lodge in Dinokeng and besides really looking forward to a relaxing getaway, we’re also using this trip to prepare for our upcoming 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐚 🏜️🚐

This will be an almost 3-week trip through Namibia, with long gravel roads, remote campsites, and proper off-grid travelling — exactly the kind of trip the new BorderX ARTE was built for.

This is only our second trip with the ARTE caravan, but on the previous trip we were still so busy that we never really had time to properly use and enjoy the caravan itself.

So this weekend is all about testing our off-grid setup, making sure all the equipment works like it should, and checking that we actually have everything we’ll need for a long trip.

Well… we can already say we definitely don’t have everything yet 😅
Which means we’ll probably have to do at least one more test trip before Namibia.
