Leading The Way with Rouvaun Smit this Sunday, 04 October 2026 at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
The excitement of last Saturday’s feature-race action may have set the bar high, but there’s plenty more to look forward to when Hollywoodbets Durbanville welcomes racing back to its picturesque Country Course on Sunday.
With its charming surroundings, crisp spring atmosphere and unmistakable country-racing appeal, it’s a setting that always adds something special to the afternoon.
The focus now shifts to another competitive card, where the formbook will come under scrutiny and punters will be looking for those runners capable of turning promise into profit. So, on that note, let me share my selections with you:
RACE 2: JOIN THE RACE COAST TURF CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (3YO) (1000m):
My BEST BET on the card is AFRICAN WILD DOG. I sided with him last time out, only to be left disappointed, but I’m prepared to give him one final chance to make amends. He arrives here in good form, having finished runner-up in each of his last four starts. He also attracted strong betting support when sent off as an odds-on favourite over 1250m last time out, only to find one too good again. The drop back to the minimum trip could be exactly what he needs. Craig Zackey takes over in the saddle and has to overcome a wide draw, which is obviously a concern. If Zackey can get him across and into a handy position early, AFRICAN WILD DOG should be right in the firing line when it matters most and has another chance to finally shed his maiden tag.
RACE 4: LUCKY FISH SAHARA RICHES CASH COLLECT Appr. Class 5 (Benchmark 70) — 2000m
SUPERHERO is my EACH-WAY play on the day, and his consistent form makes him an appealing proposition. He has been somewhat costly to follow, finishing third as the favourite in each of his last two starts, but he continues to give his best and deserves plenty of respect here. He produced another solid effort when staying on for third over this course and distance last time out, and the booking of in-form apprentice Damyan Pillay catches the eye. If SUPERHERO can produce another honest effort over this 2000m trip, he could be rewarded for consistency and give his supporters plenty to cheer about.
As always, punters should do their own homework, consider the opportunities and enjoy the racing at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
