3 January ... the first full moon for 2026. Moonrise tonight is around 7.50pm.

According to the South African Heritage Full Moon list the January moon is called Mantis Moon, named after the mysterious and beautiful Praying Mantis insect, which features prominently in the stories of the San and the Khoi.
