Witbank Golf Bowling Club reaches out to South-African Infantry Association. (SAIV)

“A record profit for a bowls fundraiser” Chris Sonnekus, convener of the 2026 annual bowls tournament, held at Witbank Golf Bowls Club by the Hoȅveld branch of the SAIV, declared at the end of an awesome day of comrade, fun and tough bowling competition.

Players competed fiercely, fighting the extremely fast green, over two games of 12 ends each. The day turned pleasant, clocking 22 degrees before lunch. Sam Curtiss and her friendly helpers, Linah, Sarah, Marthie, Ralie, Macy and Constance entertained the hungry competitors with a delicious lunch. The greens were returned to the President with great thankfulness and appreciation from the organisers.

Die trekking van die kruiwa , gelaai met die beste drinkgoed, het gevolg en makker Kobus Kombrink het die wenlys gehad. Kobus het die kruiwa laat opveil en van die opbrengs nog ‘n verdere R1500 aan die SAIV geskenk.

The spider was won by Gavin Shoobert. Teams 3 to 14 were awarded prizes consisting of a special bottle of wine for each player, whilst the Cheetahs were awarded the second prize of R2000. The Gladiators were victorious and awarded the coveted trophy and R4000 cash. Congratulations to golf members Simon (Sakkie), Francis, Piet and Eunice. The day was ended with contagious fun during the bingo event arranged by Sam and narrated by Santie and Wollie.

Great thanks were extended to the President, committee and members of Witbank Golf bowling Club for their awesome hospitality, professional hosting of the tournament and the “one stop” handling of the cash.

What an absolutely fantastic afternoon on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at our Bowling Club! 🥳
We had the pleasure of hosting the team from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and what an afternoon it turned out to be!

The greens were filled with laughter, friendly banter, and bowling skills ranging from "future Protea material" to "let's just blame the green!" 😂
For a group who, in many cases, had never rolled a bowl before, there was some amazing natural talent on display. It didn't take long before the competitive spirit kicked in, with plenty of cheering, a few groans, and the odd debate about whose bowl was actually closest!
A huge thank you to all our club members who worked behind the scenes and on the greens to make the day such a wonderful success. Your hard work, hospitality, and teamwork made everyone feel welcome and ensured a memorable afternoon.
To our PwC guests—thank you for bringing your enthusiasm, laughter, and great sense of humour. We hope you've caught the bowling bug and will be back for another roll soon!

On June 16th, the Witbank Golf Bowling Club successfully hosted Ogies school's team building event, which was attended by 48 enthusiastic teachers. The competition was fierce yet enjoyable, despite the participants' limited bowling experience. Notable skills were displayed, and the teams demonstrated impressive competitiveness. We extend our gratitude to our members who contributed to the event's success, particularly our club president, Gavin, Sam, James, Piet, Constance, Jan, Ellen, and Si, for their tireless efforts.

Witbank Golf Bowling Club proudly hosted the Mpumalanga West Veterans Open Singles, where esteemed veterans showcased their skills for the coveted trophy. The event was complemented by fine food and beverages, made possible by key contributors. Heartfelt thanks to Barry Delvoldere, Mpumalanga West President, for gracing the event with his presence, Sam Curtis for food preparation, James Moulder for beverage catering, the greenkeeper for outstanding green maintenance, and markers for their invaluable assistance. The final standings were as follows: Gavin Shoobert (WGBC) in 5th place, Simon Mokwena (WGBC) in 4th place, Noel De Villiers (Secunda) in 3rd place, Hanno Kapp (MSC) in 2nd place, and Koos Jonker (Secunda) emerging as the 2026 winner. Gratitude is extended to all involved.
