It's been a big week at the club - here's what's been going on.....
Saturday 12th
Mt Barker Golf held their Mixed Fours Albany Autos event. Two teams from Middleton Beach entered. Congratulations to the team of Bert and Olivia Linden and Dianne and Arthur Becroft for placing third with a score of 6 + 13. Congratulations also to the team of Janine and John Hanson, Noel Skinner and Wendy Faithfull for fourth place with 6-1. The 2nd place went to an Emu Point team and 1st place to an Albany team.
Sunday 13th
The team of Jim Robertson, Mark Pooley and John Stafrace went to Pinjarra to compete in the BPL Cup State Final against three other teams from South Perth, Safety Bay and Leeming. Unfortunately, they did not get through but we congratulate them on their effort in getting as far as they did in a very tough competition and their representation of the club.
Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th
This was the first official event of our season with our Mixed Championship Fours – Smith Family Shield – sponsored by Hugh Smith and his family. 12 teams played three games of 14 ends over the 2 days, C Green on Day 1 and A Green on Day 2. The weather was definitely a challenge, with drizzle and cool conditions on Tuesday and it definitely becoming warmer on the Wednesday. The competition was fierce and the lead was hotly contested right down to the last game, where a draw determined the difference between first and second place for one team. A great time had by all players and a great speech given by our sponsor Hugh Smith before handing out the prizes while enjoying the pizzas provided. The placings were:
4th Place: Kim Thompson, Barry Holt, Rob Lamont and Gladys Richardson 12 + 25
3rd Place: John Stafrace, Jeff Meyers, Di and Mark Pooley 12 + 32
2nd Place: Noel Skinner, Wendy Faithfull, Phil Ramsden and John Radys 13 + 56
WINNERS: Jim Hull, Emma and Kevin Gleeson and Brian Osman 15 + 5

Friday 18th
48 players came out to the B Green for social bowls today to top up their tans in the positively summer weather and to try and win the coveted yellow envelopes. We welcomed Yai Heron from Katanning and with Frank under the weather it was up to John Radys to keep track of the placings today.

President Steve Faulkner – not present – and no sight of VP Ken Richardson-Newton so it was up to other VP Bert Linden to step into the breach. Luckily, it was a quiet night and he very warmly welcomed the visitors (our RSL members) and players from other clubs, before getting on with the raffles and member draw so that everyone could get home for the all important Dockers vs Sydney game tonight.
