Border Bellydance

Sam might have been homebound due to an injury, but thanks to the wonderful team at the Australian Belly Dance Convention we were still able to cover the deep and intricate topic of terminology at BellyCon26 on Sunday.

This has been an interest of Sam's for almost two and a half decades and the presentation was the culmination of that long journey plus six months of very intense research. How we managed to contain it to an hour was a miracle!

We are in a MAJESTIC mood tonight!! So excited to be sharing the stage with all the wonderful dancers at Queen Bee Belly Dance Melbourne's mid-year concert 🤩

We were incredibly blessed to have the most amazing venue and catering for our BB School Camp!

The Old Priory Beechworth was simply spectacular - accommodation, dining halls, beautiful grounds and the perfect stage & dance floor for our party night. Angela & Remo were the most accommodating hosts, it was like staying in a fairytale.

BAM Catering - we seriously can't praise these Yackandandah-based caterers enough ❤️ They created the most thoughtful menu which accommodated our wide variety of requirements and took care of everything - just look at the spread!! It was incredible, everything was so flavourful. We're already booking them for our next event 😁

Nowell at The Lebanese Sweet Co. whipped up five whole kilos of dessert for us to devour. And we did!

And what's a stay in Beechworth without a trip to THE Beechworth Bakery? A fantastic way to end our camp.

What a weekend!! Together with Bellyup Bellydance & Bluefire Bellydancers, we just held our inaugural 24 Hour Hafla (aka BB School Camp!) at the beautiful Old Priory in Beechworth. A weekend filled with love & joy as our dancers, friends & family came together to share shimmies (& zilling!), laughs and lots and lots of hugs.

We'll be sharing some highlights over the next week. But for now - thank you to everyone who came and helped us create this wonderfully supportive & loving sister school community 🥰

Soheir Zaki has been an inspiration and joy for so many. I remember the first video I ever saw - her elegance and expression was divine and I became a huge fan. A terribly sad loss for Egyptian dance 😢

The countdown is on to something MAJESTIC! Ticket sales opened today for Queen Bee Belly Dance Melbourne's mid-year concert. Our troupe is getting soooo excited to join them with our two performances - Queen's Wings & Drama Queen!

Look what just popped up in Issy's memories! This was Sam & Issy at Caroline of Cairo's visit to Tassie in 2011. We stayed with Adriana of Bellywood, who hosted the event. Sam took a carry on bag for the entire trip, Issy's carry on was filled with makeup alone - no such thing as travelling light 🤣 Wonderful memories of dancing, friends and fantastic fun!

It's now just 2 months until BellyCon26 in Perth! Sam is deep in research with new ideas for the big discussion about the terminology we use in this dance (hint: "this dance" is not the answer).
