Fairbairn Golf Club 2025 Country Club of the Year

Fairbairn Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 course with tree-lined fairways and grass greens.

Our clubhouse features a licensed bar, café and BBQ area, making it the perfect place for social golf, competitions and events. Fairbairn Golf Club is situated on the Fairbairn precinct, located at the north-east corner of the Canberra International Airport. Access is via Glenora Drive, off Pialligo Avenue (the road to Queanbeyan). It is a full 18 hole par 70 course with well maintained grass greens and fairways defined by established pine trees. There are bunkers, mounds and water hazards to add to the golfing challenge, but the rough is kept manageable to minimise frustration and add to the enjoyment of your round. In 1953 a six hole course with sand greens was built on a vacant area of RAAF Base Fairbairn by a group of volunteer serving personnel. By 1965 the course had expanded to nine holes with grass greens - the turf coming from the old Royal Canberra Golf Club when it was forced to relocate owing to the filling of Lake Burley Griffin. At that time the club was known as RAAF Golf Club Fairbairn, with membership and indeed access largely restricted to serving personnel. In 1998 the name of the club was changed to the ADF Golf Club and in a sign of the times the Department of Defence made it clear that historical subsidies in the form of things like 'free' electricity and water, cleaning, waste disposal etc.could not continue indefinitely and the club would need to become self-supporting. This process of sometimes painful transition commenced in the late 1990s, led to the registration of 'Fairbairn Golf Club incorporated' in 2004 and culminated in 2010 when a formal lease (The Defence Licence) was negotiated, giving the club security of tenure for an initial period of seven years in return for an annual rent.

After being fortunate enough to win last year, to be recognised again this year is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

What a year for Fairbairn Golf Club.

After winning Golf NSW’s Golf Club of the Year – Country in 2025, we’re incredibly proud to announce that Fairbairn has now been named a finalist in the Golf Australia National Awards of Excellence for Most Outstanding Club, Facility or Place to Play – Regional.

From a little club with big dreams to being recognised on the national stage… we couldn’t be prouder.

This recognition is a reflection of the growth and progress our club has made, the experiences we’re creating for our members and visitors, and the incredible people who make Fairbairn what it is.
