What to Expect from Our New Director of Basketball? 🏀

Basketball Mount Gambier is excited to welcome Tom into the role of Director of Basketball 💙💛

Over the remainder of Term 2, Tom will be working closely with our Junior Development and Association Coaches to understand the needs of each age group and strengthen our development pathway. He’ll be introducing the BMG style of play, overseeing the associations development programs, guiding our 2026/27 Lakers Town Team coaching group, and leading the implementation of training and programs across the associations. Tom will also oversee Lakers tryouts and run the SAC EADP programs for BMG.

What Not to Expect?

Tom won’t be replacing coaches in junior games or development sessions, he isn’t available 24/7, and he won’t be at every training or every game across every age group.

His role is to build the system, support our coaches, and elevate our programs - not to coach every moment.

We’re thrilled to have Tom leading our basketball pathway and can’t wait to see the growth ahead.

🏀 WELCOME TOM DALY // DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL💙💛

We are thrilled to welcome Tom Daly as our new Director of Basketball.

Tom brings an exceptional basketball resume shaped by more than a decade across elite playing, coaching, and high performance program leadership.

As a high performance coach at Tenison Woods College, Tom has delivered sustained success, including 6 South Australian State Championships, a U17 Girls National Schools Championship Silver Medal, and progression of multiple athletes into NBL1 programs. His leadership strengths extend beyond the court, with proven experience in culture building, strategic planning, and athlete development.

As a player Tom’s playing career speaks for itself. A long time Pioneers leader and club captain, he helped drive one of the most successful eras in NBL1 history. Including 5 consecutive conference titles and 3 National Championships. Tom was also recognized individual for multiple All Star Five selections, and the 2017 SEABL Grand Final MVP. His professional experience with the Adelaide 36ers, including being named Most Improved Player and an NBL Rookie of the Year nominee, further strengthens his understanding of elite professional basketball environments.

Tom has also previously served as Basketball Development Manager at BMG, where he oversaw competitions, pathways, coaching, officiating, and representative programs - giving him experience and insight into our community and its needs.

We are excited for the direction and high performance standards Tom will bring to our association. His appointment marks a significant step forward for the future of our pathways and basketball in Mount Gambier.

SA Country is pleased to announce the U12 & U13 South Development Day on June 21st at Keith War Memorial Sports Centre, Keith.

We are looking for coaches who are interested in assisting with the on-court delivery at the development day, as well as expanding their knowledge by learning from SA Country coaching staff. The development days and development camp is an introduction for athletes and coaches to the SA Country Basketball development pathway.
