A huge congratulations to NRC members John McLeod and Margi Vercoe, who travelled to Rhodes Parkrun last weekend for its special Octogenarian Celebration, recognising Parkrunners aged 80 and over. π
John has now completed more than 400 Parkruns, while Margi is closing in on an incredible 300.
Their achievements extend well beyond Parkrun. The pair have been rowing together at Newcastle Rowing Club for almost 30 years and famously completed the Carrington to Berry Park Marathon in 2003 in a mixed double. Battling gale force winds, rough water and a punishing final stretch into Berry Park, they showed the same determination that still sees them active today.
The timing is especially fitting, with Newy parkrun celebrating its 14th anniversary this Saturday. John was there for the very first Newcastle Parkrunand is still taking part today.
We are incredibly proud to have John and Margi as members of Newcastle Rowing Club. Their commitment to fitness, friendship and community continues to inspire us all.
If you're free on Saturday, why not join the celebrations at Newcastle Parkrun's 14th anniversary and help celebrate everything that makes our community so special. β€οΈπ€π

π£ββοΈ NEWCASTLE ROWING CLUB AT NATIONALS β WHAT A WEEKEND! π¦πΊ
What a few days for our NRC crew at the Australian Rowing Championships in Tasmania. Racing in tough, cold and ever changing conditions, our athletes stepped up on the national stage and delivered.
Leading the charge were Jack Hanley and Remy Keats, who backed up their recent state title with a bronze medal in the Open Lightweight Menβs Double π₯ after a hard fought final.
Remy continued an outstanding regatta, adding a silver medal in the Lightweight Quad (composite crew) π₯ adding to his well earned selection to represent NSW in the Penrith Cup, lining up against the best crews in the country.
Jack returned to the water alongside Ben Homer, with the pair producing another strong performance to claim bronze in the Club Menβs Double π₯ a fantastic result in a highly competitive field.
Our junior representation was just as impressive, with Roxanna Brown racing across multiple events. Progressing through heats and repechages, she capped off her campaign with a 5th place finish in the U19 Womenβs Quad Final, representing both NRC and NGS with determination and composure.
Despite weather delays, schedule changes and a demanding race program, the team adapted, supported each other and kept delivering when it counted.
Back home, the NRC community came together for a watch party at the shed, cheering on races, happy to hear a familiar NRC voice on commentary occasionally π
πβ€οΈ A huge congratulations to all our athletes. Incredible racing, incredible results, and a weekend the whole club is proud of. β€οΈπ

A great Turn Up & Row session on a rainy Sunday, with crews enjoying a relaxed row through the heart of Newcastle Harbour.
Rowing past working ships, harbour traffic and the Newcastle foreshore always reminds us how lucky we are to call this stretch of water home.
Turn Up & Row is all about getting on the water, having a paddle and enjoying rowing in good company, whether youβre experienced or just starting out.
Thanks to everyone who came down for the session!
