VALE Doreen Sneddon

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Doreen Sneddon, a dedicated and loved Life Member of Newcastle Netball Association.

Doreen was also a Life Member of Mayfield Netball Club, both as a player and an umpire. Many of you may also have known Doreen as the canteen buyer and supervisor for Newcastle Netball. Doreen volunteered her time for more than 40 years and made the canteen her own. People from all over the state wanted to come to Newcastle because of the food in the canteen, not the venue! She was also known for hosting wonderful morning teas, with everything homemade.

We will miss seeing Doreen's smiles and hearing her laugh around the courts.

We extend our deepest condolences to Doreen's family and friends.

Newy Netty Legend to NNSW Hyundai Netty Legend 👏🎉

Congratulations to Sharni Matthews from MWNC - Maryland Wallsend Netball Club | Newcastle Netball Association, our July Hyundai Netty Legend of the Month.

We’re continuing the 2026 Netty Legend of the Month program, supported by Hyundai, celebrating the volunteers who are the heartbeat of grassroots netball across NSW.

As a dedicated coach and volunteer, Sharni gives countless hours to coaching young players, mentoring volunteers and supporting fundraising, social media and community initiatives across the club.

Sharni also organised a community netball round in support of a five-year-old local boy undergoing cancer treatment, bringing clubs, players and families together in a sea of yellow.

Her passion for inclusion and helping every child feel welcome has made a lasting impact on players, families and volunteers throughout the community.
