🐯 𝗖𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦 & 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳

Planning for the 2027 season is already underway, and we have been really encouraged by the number of applications we have already received for Coaching and Manager positions across the Club.

But there is still time to put your hand up.

Coaching or managing a team is one of the most tangible ways you can contribute to rugby league at Southport. It is an opportunity to help develop players, build strong team cultures and contribute to the environment we want to create across our Junior and Senior football programs.

Whether you have been involved in rugby league for years or believe you have something positive to contribute to a team, we would encourage you to express your interest.

Our aim is to 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯'𝘀 𝗔𝗚𝗠. This will give our Coaches the opportunity to begin communicating with their teams, planning for 2027 and undertaking any pre-season work they believe will benefit their players.

A strong season doesn't start at Round 1. It starts with good people putting their hands up now and helping us prepare.

Mini Coach of the Year – Jackson Prowse

Mini Manager of the Year – Stacey Milne

Mini Team of the Year – U8

Jackson, Stacey and the U8 team are a fantastic example of what it means to be part of a club.

This team, their coach and their managers genuinely care about Southport Tigers and our junior club. They don’t just turn up to train and play — they contribute to the club and help wherever they can.

They consistently set up their own fields on game days and make sure their responsibilities are taken care of. Stacey is an excellent communicator with both the club and her families. She always makes sure her volunteers are organised and regularly offers additional help when it is needed.

Jackson has coached this team for the past three years and has developed a fantastic group of young players. The team plays great footy, but just as importantly, they demonstrate great sportsmanship and represent Southport Tigers in the right way.

They understand the importance of sponsorship to a community sporting club and have proactively sourced their own team sponsorship for the last 3 years.

Their sponsorship efforts have gone well beyond their own team and have helped provide desperately needed equipment for the entire club, including:

New goal post pads for our main field when our old ones were falling apart.
Two defibrillators — vital, potentially life-saving equipment for our club and community.
New training equipment specifically for our younger junior teams.

Their contribution is a perfect example of club spirit — looking after your own team while also thinking about what you can do to make the whole club better.

Congratulations to Jackson, Stacey and our U8s — very deserving recipients of our 2026 Mini Coach, Manager and Team of the Year Awards.

As we start planning for next season, we are calling on Southport Tigers members who would like to play a more active role in helping shape the future of our Club.

For 2027, Southport Tigers will establish two football committees:

🏉 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 – Under 6s to Under 16s
🏉 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 – Under 17s through to Opens

Our committees will play an important role in helping support the operation and direction of football at the Club throughout the post-season, pre-season and 2027 season.

Joining a committee is a great way to get involved in a tangible way, contribute your ideas and experience, and help make Southport Tigers an even better Club for our players, families, coaches, volunteers and wider community.

You do not need to have years of committee experience. What matters is being willing to contribute, work with others and genuinely want to help the Club move forward.

The Tigers only continue to grow because people are prepared to put their hand up and get involved.

A special message for our U15 Div 2 team from their coaching team…

What a season 2026 was for our Under 15s.

As coaching staff, we couldn’t be more proud of this group and what they have achieved.

At the start of the year, they were a bit of a mismatch, a handful of returning players, recruits from nearby clubs and boys coming from rugby and AFL backgrounds who were new to rugby league.
What they did share was a love of mateship, a willingness to work hard, a commitment to each other and a strong desire to succeed.

We weren’t sure how successful the year would be, but we knew they were going to have plenty of fun trying.

After losing three of their first four games, it would have been easy to drop their standards. Instead, they lifted. They trained harder and enjoyed every minute together. From Round 5 onwards, they lost just one of their remaining 12 games.

Along the way, they became much more than a football team. They became best mates. They hold high standards amongst themselves without being critical or judgemental. They support each other, back each other and genuinely want to see their teammates succeed.

The finals brought us a major semi-final against Currumbin, a team that had not been beaten by any other team all year. The boys rose to the challenge and earned their place in the Grand Final, knowing there was every chance we’d meet them again.

And meet them again we did. A much-favoured Currumbin team, a Grand Final, and everything on the line.

Our motto all year was “Play Without Fear” without fear of mistakes or failure, because we knew we had each other’s backs.

This team may have been small in size, but they had massive hearts. When the game got tough, they trusted each other, trusted what they had trained and kept turning up for one another. That belief ultimately saw them secure an incredible 16–14 golden point victory and become premiers.

They’ve also won plenty of supporters along the way, and not all of them Southport supporters . The compliments about the way they play, their sportsmanship and the way they carry themselves in both victory and defeat have been constant throughout the year. It’s a reflection of the team they’ve become and something we’re equally proud of.

From the coaching staff’s perspective, it was an absolute pleasure.

From a supporter’s perspective, it was an epic ride!

We’re excited to be hosting the Undara All Stars Off-Season Program right here at Southport Tigers!

We listened, you spoke! We know many of our families are looking for a way to keep the kids active, connected with their friends and continuing to build their footy skills once the regular season finishes — so we’ve teamed up with Undara to bring this fantastic 10-week program to our club.

Designed for our 5–7 year old Cubs, the program is all about keeping the fun going while developing fundamental skills including balance, hand-eye coordination, agility, speed, passing and kicking, along with healthy habits and plenty of fun outdoor activities.

🏉 Trial Sessions – Thursday 3rd & 10th September
📅 Official Program Start – Thursday 17th September
