REST
Winter’s leaves blanket the woodland floor
and small shoots peep from the soil
pushing their heads through layers of ochre bedding
The morning mist
a wispy veil
is draped around low hanging branches
of sleeping oaks and silver birch
Silken webs
like suspended hammocks
cradle beads of dew
There is a lightness and quietness
that hangs over the woodland
And even the robin’s lilting song
is a message to rest

Tonight at Gather, Yin & Yoga Nidra 5:45pm. Meditation (free) 7pm with Lis. Bookings essential.

Have you ever left a conversation with someone you love... and felt further away from them than before it started?
I think most of us have. The words come out wrong, or we go quiet when we wanted to speak, or we say the thing we knew we’d regret the second it left our mouth. And then we replay it. For hours. Sometimes days.
This is something Carolina Gonzalez knows deeply, both from her own life and from years of teaching women how to come back to themselves in the moments that matter most.
On Saturday 25 July, 3–5pm, she’s holding a small, in-person workshop called 5 Mindfulness Essentials for Deeper Connection.
It’s not about becoming a different person, or getting it “right” every time. It’s about learning to trust yourself enough to stay open, with your partner, your kids, your parents, your friends, even when the conversation is hard.
You’ll walk through real, practical tools for grounding your nervous system, holding space for someone else without losing yourself, and responding in a way that actually feels honest to you. There’s a guided meditation, some live practice, and gentle somatic work nothing performative, nothing you need experience for.
Carolina puts it simply: pause, breathe, and consciously choose connection over control.
One woman who did this work said it changed the atmosphere in her whole home. Not because everyone else changed, but because she did.
If this feels like something you’ve been needing, we’d love to have you there.

You're invited 🙏
We're building something quietly special here at Gather — a community of people coming together to simply sit.
Zen meditation (zazen) isn't about emptying your mind or reaching some perfect state of calm. It's about taking your seat, just as you are, aware of your breath, your body, the moment in front of you. That's it. And somehow, that's everything.
The Buddha understood that so much of our suffering is something we create. Zazen gives us the space to begin to see that, gently, honestly, over time.
Free Zen Meditation classes are now running TWICE weekly at Gather:
🕖 Tuesdays 7:00–7:30pm
☀️ Sundays 9:10–9:30am
All are welcome, whether you've never meditated before or you've had a practice for years.
Classes are led by Dawn Tratt, a student of the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhists, a living lineage rooted in traditional practice and ordinary, everyday life.
Each session offers gentle guidance into seated posture, foundational breath awareness, and options for chairs, cushions or floor sitting. Most of all, it offers a community to sit with.
A link to seated options and beginning breath techniques is on our website, head there before your first class so you feel comfortable and prepared.
And stay tuned... something is brewing. 🍵 A weekend urban Zen retreat here at Gather is taking shape. More soon.
