Celebrating 60 Years of Pride, Progress, and Excellence: Botswana Basketball Honors Our Diamond Jubilee! 🇧🇼🏀

As Botswana stands tall to celebrate 60 years of Independence (Boipuso), the Botswana Basketball community reflects on our nation’s remarkable journey with immense pride, gratitude, and inspiration. Sixty years of peace, unity, and resilience have laid the foundation upon which our national sports landscape continues to rise and flourish.
In this historic Diamond Jubilee milestone, basketball in Botswana has reached defining heights, proving that vision, dedication, and patriotic spirit can elevate us onto the biggest stages:

1. Pioneering 3x3 Excellence in Africa: Through intentional grassroots development and competitive drive, Botswana has emerged as a formidable force in FIBA 3x3 basketball across the continent. Hosting high-profile international events and consistently climbing continental rankings, our athletes have shown the world the fast-paced grit, tactical skill, and relentless heart of Batswana.

2. Building a Foundation in 5-on-5 Basketball: On the traditional hardwood, our 5-on-5 national teams, youth structures, and local leagues continue to make bold strides. From regional qualifiers to international showcases, our players, coaches, and administrators are raising the standard of ex*****on, teamwork, and governance.

Sport is a powerful catalyst for national identity, youth empowerment, and socio-economic transformation. As our nation celebrates 60 years of sovereign dignity, Botswana Basketball remains steadfastly committed to building sustainable pathways for our athletes, inspiring the next generation, and representing the Blue, Black, and White with honor across Africa and beyond.

To the Government of Botswana, our athletes, coaches, sponsors, leadership, and passionate fans across the country—thank you for being the backbone of this historic journey.
Happy 60th Independence Anniversary, Botswana!

A NEW ERA FOR TEAM BOTSWANA 🇧🇼✨

The Botswana Basketball Association was honored to be part of a flagship moment for Botswana sport, as the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) announced a landmark 10-year multi-sport technical partnership with NIKE, spanning 2026 to 2036.

This is more than a kit agreement. It is an investment in how Botswana’s athletes prepare, travel, compete, represent and ultimately perform on the world stage. Through the partnership, Team Botswana athletes across multiple sporting codes will benefit from sport-specific apparel, including:

Competition and sport-specific apparel
Training wear
Travel wear
Podium wear
Hospitality apparel

And most importantly, the partnership introduces performance and podium incentives, creating an additional layer of recognition for athletes who bring home medals for Botswana.

🥇🥈🥉 Olympic Podium Incentives
Gold: US$30,000
Silver: US$20,000
Bronze: US$10,000

The value of the overall partnership is significant, with benefits projected approximately to P104 million over the partnership period. For Botswana Basketball, this is particularly exciting.

Basketball is part of a growing Team Botswana sporting ecosystem, and partnerships of this magnitude create an opportunity to strengthen the pathway from youth participation, talent development and international competition, to elite performance.

The future of Botswana sport must be built not only around medals, but around people, systems, opportunity, infrastructure, technology and belief. From 2026 to 2036, Team Botswana will have a global sporting partner walking alongside its athletes.
