Happy Friday to our Mindful Movers!
I spent a many of years trying to fix others.
When something was wrong my go to strategy was to fix this issue for them as fast as possible.
The problem is when we go to fix someone else’s life , we rob them of having the experience to heal and grow.
We all need to move through our suffering to find the healing. And nine times out of ten we survive.
The thing is trying to fix another’s problems really comes down to us needing to feel safe and connected with ourselves.
Think about it , when a good friend or loved one comes to in distress what happens to your own nervous system ? How does your body feel?
Chances are you start to feel distressed. So it’s so normal for the body to naturally send a message of “ let’s fix this now, so I can feel better again”.
We are not really helping our loved one, it’s our own self that we are trying to alleviate the suffering.
When I first heard that , it made me step back.
Now this is not to say we don’t want to see a dear one suffer , or want to help them through the suffering.
But it’s important we are mindful about how we do this.
If you notice yourself instantly giving advice that wasn’t asked for. Or you’re starting to throw a bunch of self help resources their way.
Take a moment to pause and check in with yourself.
Chances are you are feeling dis regulated from their suffering. So the better thing to do is turn inward , tend to your needs. Ask yourself , what about this is causing me to feel uncomfortable?
So then you can truly show up for this person in a supportive way.
Asking :
What do you need?
Can I do anything for you ?
Can I give you a hug?
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, it must be so hard?

When we stop fixing and start holding another or our selves it can be very freeing.
It takes time and practice.
I wish you all a lovely Friday.
Be well 💕✌️💕

I was asked to write something on this topic of Healing. So here goes;

Healing begins when you are able to start saying No. Healing starts when you start saying No to the suffering.

Healing starts when you start to say No, that hurts, I don't like that, that doesn't make me feel good.

These hurt feelings come up anytime we abandon our own wants, needs and wishes.

These uncomfortable feelings come up everytime we try to keep the peace, put another's feelings above our own, everytime we abandon ourselves to stay safe.

Everytime we feel unsafe, unseen, unheard, ignored, dismissed, disrespected, not valued, it is high time to say No, I cannot stay where I am not wanted.

As soon as we stop making ourselves small, stop being silent to remain safe, sacrificing ourselves, in any way, for another, it is time to say No.

When we say No; to intolerable behavior, we say Yes to ourselves.

We choose ourselves, over another, we take care of ourselves, we nurture ourselves, we love ourselves, we value ourselves.

The moment we say No, No more!!!

Healing begins ...

Please, share this Compassionate message with anyone who may need to hear what the power of No, can do.

Love is easier , it just is. Yet we burn up so much good energy being unkind to ourselves.
Why??
It’s the way our brain is wired, it is a protective mechanism, and for some of us maybe learned by the environment we grew up in.
The beautiful thing is , we can rewire , retrain our brain to work from a kind place a compassionate place.
Next time you catch yourself not loving on you.
Pause , take a breath and then start that conversation over with yourself.
It might sound like this.

“ It’s ok I feel like this”
“It’s ok I feel embarrassed, or made a mistake. These things happen”.
“Today was a tough day, I didn’t handle it the best, tomm is a new day, I can try again.”
“I’m going to choose to love myself like I would a good friend or loved one”.

Go and do something nice for yourself today.
You are worth it.
Wishing you all a mindful Tuesday 💕✌️

The Power Of Positivity!

I invite you to join me for this next 5 week yoga series .
During the challenges that life continually unfolds in our direction how can we hold ourselves positively ?
Mindfulness teaches us how to spend time daily practicing and welcoming ways in which we can set our positive vibrations to a higher level.
Being positive does not mean we are living life perfectly or we do not suffer or feel pain. Positivity is the glass or container in which we create for ourselves to hold that suffering with a sense of lightness and ease. This positivity can come from learning how we shift our internal dialogue from a negative thought process into a more positive process.
Leaning into positivity is all about taking time to pause and notice what is showing up in the mind and body.

If this sounds interesting to you, I would be thrilled if you could join me for the next and last 5 week series of this season, themed
The Power Of Positivity.

Showing up is the hardest part. I tell this all the time to the fitness and yoga community I teach.
And today I needed to follow my own advice.
I’ve taken a step back from some of my fitness routines due to the way life has been rolling for me lately.
But this past week a voice kept saying “come on Dee , go sign up for spin class it’s been awhile”.
And I found myself making excuses for not going.
Like , I’m tired, I have other things that need doing, it’s going to be so hard.
Well this morning I decided to rip the bandaid off and show up!
I’ll tell you it was hard , but once I got there I told myself , “it’s ok you’re here now , the rest is gravy , give 50%”.
And I did and I feel great !
We forget about how good we feel when we choose to show up and not avoid. Because really that’s why we are not coming.
We are avoiding discomfort , a challenge or something that might ask us to push ourselves a bit.
Showing up really is the hardest part.
Whether it’s showing up fur a tough conversation, work , a meeting , therapy appointment, exercise group, going for a walk, meeting tough emotions, making good choices about eating.

It is the mind that stops us from showing up.
The mind will tell you all sorts of stories and strategies to avoid what is best for you.
And the mind doesn’t do this to punish you, it is just wired to run away to help protect you.
But in the long run when we stay stuck in the mind’s negative grip it will over time cause more suffering.
So here is my question for you.
Next time you find yourself resisting showing up.
Ask
“Why do I not want to show up?”.
Get quiet and listen for the answer.
There may be a legit reason why you are not showing up and that’s ok. Then listen to that wisdom and don’t go.
But if your answer was like mine this morning.
“ ahh it’s going to be hard, my legs will feel so tired, it’s raining out”.
For me those are excuses, so I knew I needed to show up.
And the reminder - once you show up you get to choose how much you want to bring to the table.
9 times out of 10 we feel so much better for showing up , even if we didn’t give full effort.

If you are reading this , you have shown up!
Way to go and have a super lovely day 💕✌️.
