Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. 🧡

We remember the children who never returned home and recognize the strength of survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Acknowledging this painful history – and its lasting impacts – is a vital step toward meaningful reconciliation.

Flags at municipal facilities have been lowered to half-mast in recognition.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are both observed annually on September 30th, and they are dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system.

The youth of Mississippi Mills invite everyone to join them on September 30th, at 7:00 pm, for the community’s annual Truth and Reconciliation Vigil, taking place at Riverfront Park, 272 Spring Street in Almonte.

This youth-led event offers an opportunity for a quiet, reflective walk at 6:40 followed by a program beginning at 7:00 pm with guest speakers, readings, and special guest sharings by Marcia Chum-Gibbons, a wonderful singer-songwriter of Cree heritage (Constance Lake First Nations), and David Finkle, a talented musician and knowledge keeper from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Following the program, everyone will be invited to place a candle at The Seven Gifts and, in their own time and space, to reflect on what has been shared and how each of us can continue on the path of Reconciliation.

Chairs are provided but you are welcome to bring your own seating. In the event of heavy rain, the vigil will take place at The Almonte Old Town Hall. (14 Bridge Street)

Are you looking to refine your shot-making or unwind on the ice before the weekend? Our Friday Social League is a great fit for intermediate curlers or recent graduates from our Learn 2 Curl program!

• 🕒 When: Fridays | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
• 🗓️ Format: Fixed teams (6 to 7-week blocks)
• 🍻 Social: Stick around in the lounge after the game for drinks and good conversation!
