Yes, dogs can eat the same mushrooms you can. Cook them to break down their tough membrane to allow your dog to access the nutrients.

Ugh. This breaks my heart. Currently we have a few samoyeds in desperate need for either a foster or a forever home to open up for them. Some of the details on two different dogs are listed below. If you or someone you know is interested in helping out, drop us a message and I will get you connected with the right people.

More Rescue - Ontario

My apologies to the SAC members, but we require your assistance with more rescues in Ontario.

We are currently assisting with two different Samoyeds in need of a new home; a male currently in with a different a Rescue in St. Thomas, and a female currently living with her owner in Brampton. NOTE: Neither of these dogs is in our Rescue, however we are helping them try to find individual new homes.



Here is the information on each dog, along with some pictures. If you are interested in following up with more information on either of these dogs, or anyone you know may be interested, please contact me directly and I will put you in touch with either the rescue group or the owner. Thank you!

NINO

Nino is a 2-year-old unneutered male that was surrendered to a rescue in St. Thomas in the last few days. Nino's original owners contacted our Rescue a few weeks ago to help find a new home for him. His owner was an elderly gentleman whose health had deteriorated, so the daughter contacted us to help rehome him. We sent her referrals and she interviewed folks to find him a new phone home. We were notified last week by the daughter that she had found him a new home, however I received an e-mail this morning that the dog has since been turned into a rescue group after being rehomed by the daughter.


The rescue group who notified us today had the following comments:


“So the situation is the gentleman that had him had a stroke, so family friend took him in for about six days. He has some anxiety which is causing barking so they lived in Toronto and it was just not suitable for the building they were in so they’ve surrendered him to us. He is very friendly and sweet although he can be a little bit protective over some strange things like toilet paper rolls. The person that has fostering him currently isn’t super experienced with the breed and I would be more comfortable having someone who knows the breed so that we can tackle some of the challenges that she’s having. We do have a trainer coming to start today with him to help with things like anxiety, crate training, and leash training. Overall, he’s a really sweet dog - good with other dogs and kids, not entirely sure about cats. Not crate trained and has marked a couple times but overall, a really nice dog.”



One of the other folks that SAC Rescue referred met with Nino and his original family a few weeks ago and had the following comments:


“My husband and I had a chance to meet Nino, a gorgeous energetic pup that needs a lot of training but definitely doable. Unfortunately, we don’t have it in us to train him especially in regards to having respect in our house or if he would take to crate training. She informed us that Nino, when left alone, tears up shoes, carpets etc.. I appreciate her honesty because that’s the best for Nino. He’s a little too young and energetic for us. I really hope he finds a good home because he has good temperament but he’s a little cooped up with his old owner that never takes him out, so he has a lot of unspent energy and boredom so I understand why his daughter wants to find Nino a home urgently. It’s for the best.”

We realize that Nino will take an experienced, patient home that will help him reach his full potential after being bounced around these last couple of weeks, away from the only home he has ever known. That can be very hard on a young dog.

SUGAR

Sugar is a 2-year-old female Samoyed located in Brampton. Her owner has changed jobs and is required to be traveling across the country for her work for extended periods and can no longer keep Sugar. She's completely up to date on her vaccines and has no known health issues. She spayed and enjoys other animals - she's good with dogs and cats and has no issues with children.

We are helping her owner by referring interested folks to her to arrange for meet-and-greets and then interview. All arrangements would be between you and Sugar's owner.

UPDATE - URGENT anyone in Saskatchewan...

This is an URGENT update regarding the male Sammy in Saskatoon!

Owner contacted me today to say the neighbor has threatened her because the dog continues to bark when she is not at home, which she can't always be.

Is there anyone traveling from Saskatoon to Alberta that can bring this dog SAP? Or anyone in Saskatchewan that is able to take this dog, until other arrangements can be made to transport him?

The owner is concerned for her dog's safety, and her email suggested she would be taking him into the vet to be euthanized if we can't find a way to help him😦.

PS - The female from this original pair is at my home and is recovering from her spay surgery from yesterday. She will be delivered to the foster home in Edmonton this weekend.

Saskatoon Samoyeds Need Assistance

SAC Rescue has been notified about 2 Sams in Saskatoon area that are needing a new home. We then received an email directly for the owner this morning.

If you can help with one or both of these dogs please PM me.

NOTE: They are NOT in our Rescue at this time - we are only assisting by referrals so far.

"Hello Lisa,

It was suggested that I reach out to you regarding two Samoyeds I recently adopted.

They are a bonded pair ages 4 and 5. A female and a male, not spayed or neutered but fully vaccinated.

I’ve had them for 3 months but unfortunately it’s not working out for us. It’s very difficult for me to make this decision but they need to be rehomed. I’ve been picky as to who they go to as Samoyeds are high maintenance dogs and I don’t want them bouncing from home to home.

The dogs are very sweet but we just moved and they bark when my kids play with them or when they chase the cats. Our new neighbour is very disgruntled with their barking and I often get texts to ask them to be quiet even though they dog actually bark that much.

Another reason is I was hoping that when they got accustomed to acreage life, they would hang around but they have taken off on me so I had to equip them with GPS satellite collars. Every morning I put them on, and every evening I take them off to charge. This part of Samoyeds I was not aware of and I wish I had known so that I would not have adopted them as then maybe they would be at their forever home. This task is very difficult for me being a mother of 5 children and pregnant with my 6th. I can’t keep this up forever.

My last and most important reason as to why they have to be rehomed is the female growled at my 10 month old baby as he went crawling by. This shocked me and was very out of her typical behaviour. It led me to search about it. I learned that some dogs are nervous around crawling babies due to the strange movement. I cannot risk them being together even though before her behaviour towards him has always been nice and calm. I won’t risk my baby. Being pregnant, this will continue on likely when our next baby starts crawling.

Both dogs have been excellent with all my other 4 kids ages 3-7 especially with my 3 year old autistic son. He lays with the male dog, on him and hugs him constantly and he puts up with him no problem.

I just really want a good home for them and I’m having a very difficult time finding them a home. I’ve said no to multiple people as I don’t think they are a good fit.

I don’t know what to do now and I really can’t keep them for much longer.
