🦒🐒 A day of adventure at the Peterborough Zoo! 🚌🌿

Last week, our preschoolers packed up and headed out for a special adventure to the Peterborough Zoo! From the excitement of climbing onto a big school bus and experiencing the journey together, to exploring the zoo and discovering animals up close, it was a day full of curiosity, wonder and so many new experiences. 💛

Trips like these are so much more than a fun day away from the centre. Getting out into the community gives children opportunities to experience new environments, build confidence, practice social skills, develop independence and make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the world around them. 🌎✨

There is so much learning that happens when children are given the opportunity to explore, observe, ask questions and experience the community around them.

We loved watching our preschoolers take it all in — the excitement, the questions, the laughter and those little moments of awe. What a wonderful adventure! 🦁🦓🦒💚

🐢💚 A Very Special Thank You! 💚🐢

Last Friday was an unforgettable day at Kinder Learning Centres, and we want to extend a huge thank you to Brandi and Justin for sharing their wonderful pet turtle, Raffi, with all of our children! 🥰

Justin generously came in on his day off to lead a fantastic science presentation, bringing along Raffi, turtle food, and even stuffed turtle friends to help every child safely explore and learn. Together, we watched Raffi swim, enjoyed seeing him eat, and discovered the unique characteristics that make turtles such fascinating animals. The stuffed turtles provided a hands-on opportunity for the children to observe and explore while ensuring Raffi stayed comfortable and safe.

From our infants to our preschoolers, every child had the opportunity to experience this incredible learning opportunity. It was the perfect introduction to our growing interest in animals and couldn’t have come at a better time as we get excited for our upcoming Preschool Zoo field trip! 🦁🐘🦒

Experiences like these spark curiosity, inspire meaningful conversations, and help children develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the amazing creatures we share our world with.

Thank you again, Brandi and Justin, for your generosity, your time, and for giving our children such a memorable experience with Raffi. We are so grateful! ❤️🐢

🚂🌿 Small World Adventures in Preschool 4! 🦁🐑

Our Preschool 4 children immersed themselves in imaginative small world play, creating stories as animals, people, and a moving train journeyed around the track! Using loose parts, LEGO, natural materials, and animal figurines, the children designed their own landscapes, built structures, and explored where the train might travel next.

As they played, the children strengthened their creativity, language, and social skills by collaborating with peers, negotiating roles, and sharing ideas. They also developed early STEM concepts as they experimented with building, balance, spatial awareness, and cause and effect while watching the train move through the environments they created.

Open-ended invitations like this encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and endless storytelling—because every train ride leads to a new adventure! 🚂🌱✨

🐸✨ Frog Week is hopping into our classrooms! ✨🐸

Our little learners are getting a front-row seats to one of nature’s most amazing transformations as we watch our tadpoles grow into frogs. Throughout the week, we’ll be exploring the frog life cycle through hands-on learning, stories, crafts, and lots of curiosity!

Once our tadpoles have grown into healthy frogs, we’ll release them back into their natural habitat where they belong. 🌿💚

Learning about nature is even more meaningful when we can experience it together! 🐸🌎 - Oshawa

Our little explorers dove right into a colourful, taste-safe sensory experience today! Love seeing this messy learning in Infant 1 today🌈🥣

Using plain yogurt and food colouring, our infants discovered the magic of colour mixing as they squished, smeared, and watched new colours appear before their eyes. Because the activity was taste-safe, they were free to explore with all of their senses—including a few curious tastes along the way!

Some of our babies loved it so much they climbed right into the tuff tray, embracing every messy moment. Sensory play like this encourages curiosity, supports early cognitive development, strengthens fine and gross motor skills, and provides endless opportunities for exploration through play.

Sometimes the messiest moments create the biggest learning opportunities! 💛✨

🧁 Baking up some imagination! 🌿✨
Our little chefs gathered leaves, flowers, and other natural treasures to “bake” their very own nature muffins in our outdoor mud kitchen! Through imaginative play, children build creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills—all while having so much fun. 💚

🐞💚 Bug Rescue in the Infant Room! 💚🐞

Our youngest learners had so much fun taking on a bug rescue mission! Using their little fingers, they carefully pulled the tape away to “free” the bugs, building important developmental skills through play.

This engaging sensory activity supported:
✨ Fine motor development
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Problem-solving
✨ Curiosity and exploration

There was so much excitement in Pre-4 as the children became little scientists and slime makers! 🧪✨

The process began with exploring the shaving cream, feeling its texture and making predictions about what might happen next. The children then followed steps to create their slime, carefully measuring and adding glue before mixing everything together.

This hands-on activity encouraged early math skills through measuring, supported scientific thinking as children observed changes in materials, and strengthened fine motor skills through pouring, scooping, and mixing. Best of all, they had an absolute blast stretching, squishing, and exploring the slime they created themselves!

Learning is always more meaningful when children can be active participants in the process. 💛

🔬✨ Science, sensory, and so much learning happening in our toddler classrooms! ✨🔬

Our toddlers have been busy exploring the world around them through hands-on play experiences that build important foundations for future learning.

🎣 During our fishing activity, children practiced their eye-hand coordination as they carefully maneuvered their fishing rods to catch their fish. Eye-hand coordination is an important skill that supports everything from self-help tasks to future writing and fine motor development.

☁️ In our shaving cream sensory exploration, the toddlers eagerly investigated different textures by spreading, squishing, and transferring the shaving cream onto themselves and various materials throughout the classroom. Sensory experiences help children learn about their environment while supporting creativity, language development, and self-expression.

💧🌈 Our oil and water science experiment encouraged children to become little scientists! Using eyedroppers required hand strength and control as they squeezed and released the droppers to transfer colourful water into the mixture. Children observed how the liquids interacted, explored cause and effect, and discovered the beauty of colour mixing through play.

The toddler years are filled with curiosity, and sensory play provides endless opportunities to build early science, math, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. Through exploring, experimenting, and asking questions, children are developing a lifelong love of learning—one hands-on experience at a time! ❤️
