Calgary Balloon Club

This past week the Calgary Balloon Club ran our first "Introduction to Ballooning" course in a long time. The club used to run courses like these in years past to bring in new members and give them a a good start with what to expect when out with the balloons. This year we brought it back as part of our 50th Anniversary activities.

Topics covered included the history of ballooning, how balloons fly and descriptions of all the parts you need to make a balloon, a very brief introduction to the weather that affects balloons, crewing safety and we also chatted about all the different activities that the club does over a year.

The classroom portion of our course is now complete, next up we have a practical day planned. Stay tuned to find out how that goes!

What an event! We finished the Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival with a Sunday morning flight and a third competition task.

At the end of the week, we have Club Pilots taking first, second and third!

In third place Brant, in second Scott and in first, super rookie Matt!

Thanks to the organizing committee, all the out of town pilots, and of course all the volunteers and our crews!
