Moments That Make Me Cry - Part 1

One of the most emotional scenes I've had the pleasure of capturing was Keely MacGrath's semi-final win at Women's Wrestling with her father Matt, godfather Bradshaw, and mentor/friend Lydia in her corner.

Keely was stoic and focused on her goal all week, rarely sitting still or showing much emotion, until this moment she pinned her opponent and guaranteed herself a medal.

Between the full-body pride of her father, the joy in Lydia's eyes for her friend, and Keely struggling to keep it together as her hand was raised, my heart still flutters looking at these photos.

A sad, sad day

I had the privilege of getting to spend time around Matt this summer in St. John's and getting an up-close look at him coaching his daughter. I'm not sure if I've met someone so proud of their child without overselling or pressuring them.

After I captured shots of him celebrating as Keely won her biggest match, he was like a little kid running around showing his family the photos and every time I saw him after that, he gave me the biggest grin and thanked me for whatever I was doing. For someone with such a rough exterior image, he was full of kindness and appreciation.

I understand now why that moment was so important to be remembered. I hope it can give his family some sort of comfort.
