D-Day on June 6, 1944, was the massive Allied amphibious and airborne invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II. Codenamed Operation Overlord, it was designed to breach N**i Germany's "Atlantic Wall", force open a crucial Western Front, and begin the liberation of Western Europe.

UN General Assembly resolution 57/129 of 11 December 2002 designated 29 May as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage.

26 May is Artillery Day. Every year on this day gunners celebrate the birth of artillery internationally. Although Canada adopted its observance in 1952, the Royal Artillery has recognized this as the birthdate of artillery since 1716.
