Our dancers tried a new workout this long weekend- Lagree!

Volya is constantly refining our skills and technique, and part of that is cross-training the muscles we rely on most. Ukrainian dance demands strength, balance, and discipline- three pillars we share with House of Lagree, Edmonton’s premier Lagree studio.

Our dancers experienced the challenging and rewarding atmosphere of a Lagree class, and left feeling empowered and ready to take on this week’s rehearsals.

We had the pleasure of performing our two newest dances at Volya School’s Year End Concert earlier this month. It’s always a pleasure to join these talented students on stage and see the product of their year-round hard work come to life.

Introducing our Spring Awakening MC’s: Volya alumni Ben & Anna Wisniewski! ✨

Ben and Anna met through Volya- joining the ensemble in 1995 and 2004 respectively and making their mark as talented dancers and treasured members. Their three children currently dance in one of Volya’s feeder schools, Koperoush.

Ben, a gifted soloist, built many of the props Volya continues to use today. He was known for sewing his own boots- and performing in them! His most recent contribution- a handmade wooden sign featured on the last slide.

Anna, a former Scottish dancer, began Ukrainian dance at age 14 and was known for her beautiful stage presence. She actively contributed to Volya’s costuming as Costume Director for 3 years. Now serving on Koperoush’s Board of Directors, Anna continues to enhance the Ukrainian dance community.

We couldn’t be more excited to have Ben and Anna host our event!
