To recognize The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and as part of our JAIDE in Action Roadmap, Indigenization and Decolonization stream, we want to ensure our Indigenous community members know that our Y is a place where they can feel a sense of belonging.

We have invited our locations to display window decals from the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation out of the University of Manitoba whose image is from what is known as the ’Survivors Flag’.

The image was designed during six weeks of consultation, discussion and collaboration with Survivors from across Canada. Inuit, Mi’kmaq, Atikamekw, Cree, Ojibway, Dakota, Mohawk, Dene, Nuu-chah-nulth, Secwepemc, Métis Survivors brought the flag to life by sharing their thoughts, ideas and lived experience to identify the important symbolism you see. The NCTR ensured the Survivors’ wishes and ideas were conveyed to Vincent Design to complete the flag. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected and represents something specific.

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and communities and recognize the lasting impacts of residential schools on Survivors, families, and communities.

At the YMCA, our commitment to reconciliation is rooted in our values of dignity, compassion, and belonging, and in learning, action, and meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities.

One person. One dream. A legacy that continues to move Canada forward. 🇨🇦❤️

Every September, Canadians come together to remember Terry Fox and the incredible legacy he left behind.

Terry’s Marathon of Hope was never just about running. It was about believing that one person could make a difference and inspiring millions of others to believe the same.

Today, his impact can be seen across the Canadian landscape. From communities coming together to raise funds for cancer research, to young people learning about perseverance, courage and compassion, Terry’s story continues to remind us that meaningful change often begins with one small step.

That message feels especially meaningful at the YMCA of Three Rivers and our camps.

Camp is a place where young people discover that they are capable of more than they sometimes realize. They try something new. They face challenges. They encourage a friend. They learn to work together, build confidence and become part of something bigger than themselves.

Just like Terry showed us, it isn't always about how far you go. It's about taking the next step and helping others along the way.

At the YMCA of Three Rivers, we believe in creating spaces where children and youth can discover their potential, build resilience and learn that their actions can have an impact on their communities.

Terry Fox reminded Canada what is possible when courage is combined with hope.

And at camp, we get to see that same spirit in action every day. 🌲❤️
