Do I have “too many things”?
Maybe I just refuse to fit in one box.
HR, leadership, coaching, healing, retreats.
Different work. Same instinct.

It’s Friday… and for some women, that should feel like relief.

Except the minute you stop, your brain starts making a list… I’m doing it right now!

Who needs a reply.
What still isn’t finished.
What you could get ahead on.
What would make Monday easier.
What somebody else might need from you.

And somehow, even when nobody is asking anything of you, your brain goes looking for a job. 😏

If you’ve spent years being the one who gets things done, solves the problem, keeps the peace, remembers everything and makes everyone else’s life easier, being useful can start to feel like more than something you do.

It can start to feel like part of your value, your purpose.

And that’s when rest gets weird.

Saying “not tonight” feels selfish.

Leaving something unfinished feels irresponsible.

Letting someone else figure it out feels uncomfortable.

And sitting still?

Well, Judgy Judy suddenly has a full calendar. 😂

So maybe the question isn’t, “Why can’t I relax?”

Maybe it’s,

“Who did I learn I had to be in order to feel valuable?”

Because the woman who learned that years ago may not be the woman you are now.

And maybe she doesn’t need to prove her worth by being useful every minute of the day.

So tonight, try this.

Leave one thing…
One email…
One task…
One problem that belongs to somebody else…

Let it sit.

Then notice what comes up.

The guilt.
The urgency.
The restlessness.
The little voice saying, Just do it.

And don’t rush to fix that either.

Get curious.

What am I afraid might happen if I don’t?

That answer is usually where the interesting stuff starts.

And if you’ve spent years being capable, productive and needed, but you’re starting to wonder who you are when you’re not constantly doing, fixing or proving… stay here.

That’s exactly the type of conversations we’re having.

And if you already know you’re ready to go deeper, DM me READY.

I asked you in a poll what kind of practical help would be useful right now. Another option was “Getting some of my time back.”

Let me start by saying, I see you!

You hand something off.
Then you feel the need to follow up and check on it.
And most times you find yourself fixing or adapting it.

That reflex often makes sense.
You’re accountable for the outcome, and you may have learned that catching a problem early is part of doing your job well.
Taking over can bring a quick sense of relief. You’re able to tell yourself, “I know it’s handled now.”

The trouble is, when the work comes back to you, so does the pressure, and… your team gets less chance to build their own judgement and ownership.

Next time you feel yourself about to jump in, notice what’s happening physically.
Maybe your jaw tightens or you lean towards the screen. Ask yourself,

“What do I think will happen if I leave this with them?”

Then sort out what’s actually at stake.
Is there a real business risk? Does the person know what a good result looks like? Or are they doing it differently from how you would?

The answer points to the first step… address the risk, clarify the expectation, coach the decision, or let them own the work.

Getting time back can start with understanding why you keep taking the work back.

If this pattern is familiar and you want to look at what’s happening with your team, DM me. Let’s have a conversation and shift this belief that limits not only you, but your team.

09/25/2026

I asked you in a poll what kind of practical help would be useful right now. One option that you selected was “Figuring out what I want next.”

I can see why that question can feel so big.
In fact, it’s a question I asked myself about 10 years ago.

Many of us grew up with a timetable for how life was supposed to unfold.
By this age, achieve this; then the next milestone; then the next thing to work towards.
Almost like a roadmap on ‘how to live’.

And if you’re a ‘seasoned’ woman like me, a leader or a business owner, you’ve most likely spent years getting good at making decisions, solving problems and working out what needs to happen.

Then one day the old milestones don’t answer the question for you anymore.

You realize your mind wants a clear, sensible plan, but you realize there is no chapter on how to own your true desires, which may have been hidden for some time… especially if you’re used to noticing what everyone else needs first.

So don’t do what you normally do and start by demanding a creative five-year plan from yourself. Start with a moment.

Think back over the last week. Was there a moment when you felt relief, energy, irritation or envy? As you remember it, notice what happens in your body. Did you soften, lean in, tighten, pull back?

That reaction isn’t a decision. It’s a clue.
Then ask yourself, “What might this moment be telling me I want more of… or less of?”

You’re allowed to get curious about the answer before you have to make it practical.

And if you’re at that point where the old answers don’t quite fit, let me know in the comments or DM me. I’d love to help you experience what it is like to shed what no longer fits!

I sat down this morning thinking, “I’m just going to take it easy today.”

Ya, right!! 😂

You know what happened… my brain started swirling.

👉 There’s that email I could answer.
👉 That quote I didn’t finish yesterday.
👉 A couple of things I could do now that would make Monday easier.
👉 Maybe organize my desk and next week’s tasks
👉 Maybe get ahead.

And this is exactly how Saturday disappears.
Just one little “I may as well…” at a time.

And I know I’m not the only one who does this.

If you’re an overachiever, a perfectionist, a people pleaser, or the woman everybody can count on, stopping can feel weird.

Doing nothing can feel lazy… and guilty.

Leaving something unfinished can feel uncomfortable.

Letting someone wait can feel almost irresponsible.

So we keep going.

We tell ourselves we’re just getting ahead, or that it’ll make next week easier.

We tell ourselves it’ll only take 20 minutes, and then suddenly half the day is gone and we’re wondering why we never really feel rested.

I’ve been a bit under the weather this week, which has probably been my body’s not-so-subtle way of saying, “Enough already.”’😏

And it reminded me of something I know, but apparently still need to hear myself…

There will always be more to do… Always.

Another email.
Another person who needs something.
Another thing that could be cleaner, better, finished, organized or fixed.

So if I’m waiting until all of that is done before I let myself actually enjoy my life, let’s be honest…

that’s a terrible plan!

So today, I’m leaving something unfinished… on purpose. And maybe you should too.

Let the email sit.
Let the laundry wait.
Let somebody else figure their own s**t out.
Let Monday deal with Monday.

Because your life is not supposed to happen in whatever time is left after everybody else gets what they need from you.

You get some of it too!

And if your inner voice - mine is Judgy Judy - has something to say about that… she can take Saturday off as well. 😏

If you’re a business owner or executive leader, you’re likely the SME.

You carry the experience. You know the business. You see the risks, the people dynamics, what matters and what doesn’t. And you make decisions that move people, dollars and the business.

And yes, most of us are still “doing managers” these days. You’re in it. You’re not sitting in some corner office having strategic thoughts while everyone else executes. 😂

But being in it does not mean doing all of it, and it definitely does not mean knowing how to do all of it.

Your job is to make sure you and your teams are delivering the best possible work with the time, talent and dollars you actually have.

So let me ask you…
When was the last time you looked at HOW you work?

Not how hard you work… we already know you work hard. I mean how the work actually moves.

What still comes through you?
What still needs your approval?
Where are people waiting instead of deciding?
What are you still doing because you’ve always done it?
And where are you compensating for a weak process, unclear accountability or a capability gap?

Is it? Or has nobody questioned it in five years?
Because things are moving too damn fast for leaders to keep operating on autopilot.

The business changed. Your team changed. Technology changed. The way work gets done changed.

Have you?

Because sometimes the answer isn’t work less.
It’s lead differently.

Look at what the business actually needs from you now.
👉 What still deserves your expertise?
👉 What should be owned by someone else?
👉 What needs a better process?
👉 What needs a stronger leader?
👉 What needs to disappear altogether?
👉 And maybe the biggest - What are you still holding because you simply don’t know another way to do it? That one can sting a little. 😏

But this is exactly where Freedom starts.
Not by stepping away from the business, but by making damn sure your time, experience and leadership are being used where they matter most.

And sometimes that means bringing in someone who can take an entire area off your plate properly.

That’s exactly where my Fractional HR work comes in.
Check out my comment for how I support businesses and executive leaders.

Over two days, women came in with different stories, different lives and different reasons for being there.

But one thing kept showing up..
Judgy Judy… or whatever you call that little voice in your head.

The one that says
“You shouldn’t have said that.”
“You can’t do that.”
“Who do you think you are?”
“You’re not ready.”
“You’re not worthy.”
“Don’t mess this up.”
“Just keep everyone happy.”

You know the one. 😏 She has opinions. Lots of them.

But here’s what became really clear over the weekend.

She’s not actually trying to make your life harder.
She’s trying to protect you.

The problem is, she may still be protecting the woman you used to be.

👉 The younger you.
👉 The version who learned that being good kept people happy.
👉 That being useful made you valuable.
👉 That staying quiet avoided conflict.
👉 That getting it right kept you safe.
👉 That being strong meant you didn’t need anything from anyone.

And years later, Judgy Judy is still working from that same old information.

Meanwhile, you’ve changed… lived… learned… made hard decisions… survived things you once thought you couldn’t.

You’ve become a very different woman.

But that little voice can still come in hot like she’s got breaking news. 😂

That’s where the work gets interesting.
Not by getting rid of her.
But by getting curious.

What are you trying to protect me from?
Is that still true now?
Does the woman I am today actually need this much protection?

That was one of the biggest things I watched happen over the retreat.

Women started separating the voice from the truth.

And then there was the other piece that mattered just as much.

The room… laughter… tears… the common thread.

Because there is something pretty damn powerful about realizing that I’m not the only one who thinks like this.

And when shame is met with love, curiosity and a room full of women saying “me too,” something shifts.

You don’t have to fight yourself so hard or believe every thought…
You get more choice.

And maybe that’s the biggest takeaway?
Your inner critic can stay. Judgy Judy can have a seat. She just doesn’t get to hold the microphone anymore. 🤣

Your Judgy Judy running the show? DM “JUDY”.

A lot of women over 50 were raised with a pretty clear set of instructions.

Be a good girl.
Get the degree.
Build the career.
Get married.
Raise the children.
Have the family.
Buy the house.
Take the promotion.
Be responsible.
Be grateful.
Keep the peace.
Show up for everyone.
Support the ageing parents.
Keep the whole damn thing moving.

Whew. I’m exhausted just reading that. Aren’t you? 😏

And a lot of us did exactly that.

We followed the script.
We built the life.

We became capable, dependable, successful women who knew how to get things done.

And somewhere along the way, the world changed.

Women changed.
Work changed.
Leadership changed.
Family roles changed.
What success looks like changed.

And yet some of us are still judging ourselves by rules written for a version of life that barely exists anymore.

So now you’re sitting there thinking,
“Why do I feel flat

“Why does the life I worked so hard for feel a little… beige?”

“Why am I grateful and restless at the same time?”

“Why do I want more when I already have so much?”

And this is where I think we need to stop making ourselves wrong for it!

Maybe your soul light hasn’t gone out.

Maybe it’s just been buried under decades of responsibility, proving, accommodating, producing and being the one who can handle it.

Maybe the woman you are now wants something different.

More freedom.
More creativity.
More adventure.
More truth.
More quiet.
More work that matters.
More people who light you up.
More time that actually feels like yours.

And no, that doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful.

It doesn’t mean you’re having some dramatic midlife crisis.

It may simply mean you have lived enough life to know that “good on paper” is no longer enough.

At some point, the question changes.
It stops being, “What should I do with the life I’ve built?”

And becomes,
“What kind of life still makes me feel alive?”

That’s the question I think more women need permission to ask.

And if the answer surprises you?
Good!

You’ve changed.
You were supposed to.

So tell me, what part of your life are you ready to stop living by somebody else’s old rules?

If that hits home, stay with me. Let’s redefine what success looks like.
