🔥 WHEN A CARD BREAK TURNS INTO A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME EXPERIENCE…

A local collector recently hit a Kazuma Okamoto Rookie Superfractor 1/1 in an online group break… and what happened next is pretty wild.

He reached out to a few players on the Jays and ended up hearing back from Dylan Cease who is also a collector. He wanted to get the card so he could gift it directly to Okamoto. 🤯

That eventually turned into an invite to the field for batting practice, a chance to meet and chat with Cease, AND some game-used memorabilia on top of it all.

For a lifelong Blue Jays fan, it doesn’t get much cooler than that. 💙⚾

In the hobby you have your ups and your downs… but every once in a while, one little piece of cardboard creates a story you’ll remember forever.

Regatta is a GO today which means we're closed for the day! I'm not much for watching boat races but I do love some extra time off with the family 😁 Open extended hours tomorrow 11 to 8 ✌️

Some of the stories that happen in the shop are so unbelievable that, if I wasn't there to witness them myself, I probably wouldn't believe them either.

Today's was one of those moments.

A young collector came into the shop today who's still fairly new to the hobby. He'd been mowing lawns all summer and wanted to spend the money he'd saved on some hockey cards.

He told me his favourite product was Skybox Metal Universe, so he asked what years I had in stock. As we went through them, I mentioned that 2021-22 featured Cole Caufield as one of the big rookies. Right away he said, "Isn't that Mercer and Newhook's rookie year too?"

"It sure is," I replied.

With that, he decided to grab a 2021-22 Skybox Metal Universe Hobby Box and a Blaster Box.

Now here's where it gets crazy...

A Hobby Box doesn't even guarantee an autograph, and Blaster autographs are incredibly tough to pull (roughly 1 in every 200 Blasters).

So what did he hit?

🤯 Dawson Mercer Autograph from the Blaster.
🤯 Alex Newhook Autograph from the Hobby.

Not only are the odds of pulling two autograph from just those two boxes incredibly slim, but for them to be the exact two Newfoundland rookies he had just asked me about minutes earlier?

That's the kind of hobby magic you can't make up.

Sometimes the cards really do have a story to tell!!
