After moving away from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation reserve in 2024, Jeffrey Hernandez was looking for an opportunity to reconnect with the lands and waters of his traditional territory through boots-on-the-ground stewardship work.

This summer, as a Youth Intern with our Treaty, Lands, and Resources Department, Jeffrey gained valuable experience in environmental stewardship, learning about risk mitigation and ecosystem protection.

From documenting traditional canoe routes to mapping shoreline harvesting areas with community members, the youth internship offered a unique perspective on the connection between land, culture, and conservation.

səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) Councillor Dennis Thomas-Whonoak shared remarks to celebrate the launch of TransLink's R2 RapidBus, improving access with a direct connection between the North Shore and Burnaby.

The family of MLA Joan Phillip, Amshen, is deeply saddened to share that Joan passed away peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by her the love of her life, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, her children, grandchildren and family at the age of 74. Joan was a fearless warrior and inspirational leader, and we will miss her dearly. The family asks for privacy at this time, and in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the B.C. Cancer Society.

Recently released water quality report for səlilwət (Burrard Inlet) identifies contaminant hotspots, revealing the extent of pollution from sewage overflows, urban stormwater runoff, and industrial discharges in the area.

Through a series of heat maps, the report highlights the need for continued stewardship and collaborative action to restore and protect the water quality of səlilwət (Burrard Inlet).
