Day one of grading is over, only 4 more hours to go until we see who has been successful at achieving Shodan (first level blackbelt).
These students did an amazing job on their first day of physical grading but there was so much more to do before that even happened.
At Okotoks Karate, candidates must be 16 years of age, assist in teaching classes, teach ten classes by themselves, perform volunteering, write a 1500 word essay, attend at least 2 classes per week and on average put 6 years of training in before being accepted for testing.
We want to help build a better, kinder, more confident community. We want to build a student that is looked up to and respected, a student who shows and earns respect inside and outside of the dojo.
We do things differently at Okotoks Karate and thats OK, because we are OK, everything is OK 🥋🙏🤛

Day one is over! Great job on performing kata!
Day two is Kobudo, Bunkai, Renzuko, Kakomi, and kumite.

With a grading coming up next Saturday for our White, Yellow, Orange and Green Belts we felt it was important to remain open today to ensure students get a little more time on the floor.

Cut off for orders is Wednesday 13th May for the RAINBOW SHIRTS we have plenty of our normal dragon and phoenix shirts in stock and ready to fly off the shelves!
We had a couple smaller gradings with the 5-9 year olds!
Took some of the leadership team out for Sushi and today I'm preparing for a l***r grading May 23rd for our 10+ yellow, orange and green belts (kyukyu, hachikyu, nanakyu, rokkyu, gokyu and yonkyu)
