At the most basic, beginner level, orthodox vs orthodox, I see 3 LANES of traffic:

1) move to the right, your defense side, and you are in the slower lane, covering up, reseting, buying time, and away from his power hand.
2) move to the left, offensive side, the fast lane, keep jabbing, be careful of his power hand, throw, get out. Cut off his exit.
3) middle lane - equal opportunity - centre line - head movement, layback, roll, slip, levels

This won’t work forever. You might fight a southpaw. You will develop, set traps, ask yourself what can this lane do for me? You can be fantastic at defence in the fast lane. Create fuss in the slow lane 🙂 You will learn to expect and create your own advantages. What do you think of the lane idea, as a starting idea for beginners & sparring?

Slow makes smooth. Smooth makes fast. You must learn any boxing move: correctly & slowly. Only increase the speed if things feel natural.
