About Us (Fabian Bates)

Lobster has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I started fishing with my father, Pat Bates, also known as “Patty B,” when I was just five years old. At the end of the week, Dad would pay me with lobster instead of cash. I would sell the lobsters to tourists looking for fresh lobster at the end of my driveway.

Looking back, I guess my dad was preparing me for the business I would eventually build. He certainly gave me an early appreciation for what it takes to put quality lobster on the table.

Since 1991, I’ve been in the lobster business here in Vancouver. Our main business has always been supplying live lobster wholesale to restaurants throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Then COVID changed everything.

When restaurants were forced to close, our wholesale business came to a standstill. Rather than sitting back, we decided to take our lobster directly to the people and started serving our own food, including lobster rolls and chowder.

When the restaurants reopened, we thought the lobster rolls might be a short-lived part of the business. But our customers had other ideas. They kept coming back and asking for them.

So, here we are today.

We continue to bring in fresh live lobster daily from the East Coast of Canada. Our lobsters are carefully held in our live tanks and shipped live to restaurants throughout the Lower Mainland. For our lobster rolls and other dishes, we cook the lobster and pick the meat in-house, so you get the freshest lobster possible.

From fishing with my dad at five years old to supplying restaurants across Vancouver for more than 30 years, lobster has truly been a family tradition and a way of life.

Now I get to pass that tradition on to my daughter, Eden, and her boyfriend, Dawson. Along with their friends, they are the friendly staff whose smiles welcome you all.
