Great article about fencing, especially for those who find value in the four types approach from L'Esprit de l'Épée: https://thefencingcoach.com/2026/07/16/4008/

Also appreciate the skepticism about the limits of the limits of the "physical chess" analogy: a further limit to it is that moves in chess are always the same (Bc1g5 is easily identifiable and always works the same way, even though the context changes), whereas physical fencing actions are much more variable and ambiguous. That sensory-cognitive component is a huge part of the sport.
