Here it is - the first major relocation move since MLS NEXT Pro announced its comprehensive plan to move MLS reserve teams out to new markets.
Toronto FC II will relocate to Barrie, Ontario, where they will play in a brand-new, purpose built 3,500 downtown stadium. Team name and identity tbc.
The new team will be up and running for the 2028/29 season. This deal was in the works before the creation of Hometown Soccer Holdings, the KKR-MLS joint venture designed to bring about relocations league-wide. My understanding is that HSH are not involved in this move.

"This investment in our community,alongside Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and Barrie Stadium Group’s investment in the newly formed Barrie MLS NEXT Pro franchise, will not only allow for professional sports to grow in Barrie, but
provide a pivotal community hub for our youth sports to compete and learn in. From football to soccer, lacrosse to rugby, this new facility will help grow our youth sports while also making Barrie home to professional and international soccer. This is a great day for Barrie, MLSE & Canada Soccer.”

Watching Canada play a FIFA World Cup match on home soil with my son is a memory we’ll carry forever. From the walk into the stadium to hearing the anthem, sharing every cheer, and seeing the game through his eyes was one of those bucket-list moments that reminds you what life is really about.
Grateful for the game. Grateful for the memories. Most of all, grateful I got to experience it with my little best friend. ❤️🍁⚽
