Your core sits in the middle of everything. It stabilises your spine and acts as the bridge from your lower body to your upper. You want it built like a steel beam, not a pool noodle.
The biggest mistake I see with core training is people go too light. They don’t load it heavy enough.
Your core is a muscle group like any other. Load it heavy, progressively overload it over time, and you’ll see massive gains, not just in your physique but where it counts, on the field.

I feel like training often just gets seen as a physical endeavour and just an opportunity to rep certain movements. The very best athletes are also repping their mindset.
They are strengthening their high-performance mentality by putting full attention, intensity, and intent into each movement that they do, and trying to get their thoughts as close to game-day as possible.
I had a coach tell me once:
“If you take it easy of each other during the week then it’s going to be really har don the weekend, if you go hard on each other during the week then the weekend will be easy”
Is that 100% true? No but there’s certainly something to be learned from that quote
I took this at the Markham Irish club day, where the whole club came together to play games, have fun and enjoy a BBQ after. Hearing the laughter and the cheering reminded me what makes this game so special.
I took my playing career very seriously and I skipped a lot of these types of events because I needed to “recover”. I thought it made me more professional, more disciplined, more hardcore. Looking back I was just a fool. This sport gives you lifelong friends and memories that outlast anything you’ll do on the pitch, and I was turning it down to sit alone at home.
Funnily enough, it was only when I started showing up for the social side that I started playing my best rugby.
Don’t be like I was. Get involved. Don’t miss these days.

Hitting on the rise!
Ball carriers in general are going to try and put force through you and put you into the dirt. If you want to make them look silly you’re going to have to oppose that force by extending hard through the lower body and hitting them as you are coming up.
We call this hitting on the rise and it’s been the most effective way that I have seen to consistently get big tackles when I’m hitting.

GO DANCE GO!
GO: Tale as much space as you can to reduce the options available to the ball carrier
DANCE: Come to valance by chopping your feet and slowing down to ensure you are under control and ready to strike
GO: Accelerate through contact by punching with your shoulder

Landing in a dominant position not only increases the chance of a fumble or turnover but also allows you to get back into the game quicker and make a second impact.
Tackle Mastery Sneak Peak đź‘€
I’ve been working my tail off on this course and I am just so excited to get it all out to you guys.
I wanted to give you a quick look at what kind of material you’ll be getting. So this is one of the on field “live coaching” lessons where I take a concept we looked at in the “classroom” (my office with a whiteboard/animations) and put it into action on the field. On top of that there mini work book, quizzes and film breakdown examples to help solidify the concepts in your mind and to ensure it transfers on game day.
The number 1 thing I care about with this course is ensuring that you actually change your behaviour and actions so that you can achieve your goals of becoming a more confident and dominate tackler. With that being said, I have designed the course in the way that I would have wanted when I was pushing to go pro. It’s not too sciencey or technical but still has enough detail to make sure you deeply understand the principles and concepts.
It’s been a lot of work and there’s still tons to go but I am so proud of what I’m putting torthr I think it’s really going to have a massive impact on people’s games, confidence and dominance.
Attack the Attack đź’Ą
You have to hunt! You have to be the aggressor!
Don’t let the attack dictate the pace of the game, be the defence that make the attack make tough decision and tough plays!
I love defence đź’Ą
Tackle the Tackler đź’Ą
Shift your mindset of the breakdown from one that believes it starts when the ball carrier hits the ground to when they first make contact with a defender.
With this mindset you’ll want to eliminate the possibility of a competition by either tackling them off your ball carrier or by latching on and driving your ball carrie through contact.
Don’t wait to see the perfect picture before clearing the breakdown, be proactive!
