Coach Jon is returning for his second season with IMPACT Volleyball Club after a great first season coaching our 14U Purple team, where he helped lead the team to a silver medal at Nationals in Ottawa.
For the past few years, Jon coached the Grade 7 and 8 girls at École Guyot. He continues to grow as a coach, completing both required and voluntary training as he works toward his NCCP Development Coach certification.
Coach Jon brings a strong playing background to his coaching. He was a starting middle for the 1993–94 Lord Selkirk Royals Varsity Boys AAAA Provincial Championship team, a member of the Manitoba Midget Boys Provincial Team, and played club and beach volleyball.
After university, Coach Jon spent 24 years with the RCMP and competed in volleyball in the 1999 CAN-AM Police and Fire Games. Since retiring, Coach Jon has focused more of his time on family, personal health and wellness, and, more recently, volleyball!
Jon draws on a diverse range of experiences beyond volleyball in his coaching. He is a Ukrainian dance instructor and has trained for several years in Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. These experiences have given him a strong understanding of body mechanics, balance, reflexes, coordination, and mental resilience. As a former fi****ms instructor, Coach Jon also has experience teaching people how to remain calm, focused, and rely on their training while under pressure, a skill he brings to his work with athletes.
Coach Jon takes his role very seriously and promotes a positive and safe learning environment to ensure that his athletes have the best experience possible. His patience, experience, genuine care for athletes, and eccentric nature make him a valued part of our coaching team. We’re excited to have Coach Jon back, and we’re looking forward to seeing what another season with IMPACT brings.
