We would like to acknowledge all of the Manitoba athletes who competed in Grande Prairie Alberta, at the U15, U17, and U19 National Championships.
NextGen had a smaller group in attendance this year for a variety of reasons, but we are proud of the athletes who stepped onto the mat.
Only three NextGen athletes competed: TJ Franzmann, Phoenix Ridge, and Darius Horvath. Horvath came very close to reaching the podium, finishing fourth after an impressive run of seven consecutive wins on the back side.
From WAMMA Niverville, U15 new National Champion Ryan Unrau wrestled very well. Strong efforts were also put forward by Lilyanne Reuter, Ben Reuter, Noah Fast, and Nyles Fast.
There was great representation from Schewa; Ali Talab won his division. Great job also to Bohdan Kutchmenko, Lucio Fagerstrom, and Bibars Aldrar.

Continuing a busy month of competition, on April 11 we had 10 athletes travel to Fargo, North Dakota to compete in either the Submission Challenge Jiu-Jitsu Tournament or the Geoff Martin Memorial Freestyle & Greco Wrestling Tournament. It was a full day of competition across both events.
Our three BJJ athletes had an outstanding performance, each earning double gold and showcasing their skills with confidence.
On the wrestling side, several athletes stepped onto the mat for Greco for the very first time, picking up wins and demonstrating grit, courage, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone.
What stands out most is the way our athletes carry themselves. We are proud of their sportsmanship, discipline, and respect for their opponents. It means even more when coaches and parents from other clubs take the time to recognize those same qualities in our team.
Another strong weekend for the group.

So much has happened in April!
Itโs been a jam-packed month of BJJ and wrestling tournaments. Every single weekend weโve had athletes competing, and on two weekends, we even had events happening at the same time.
We kicked things off on April 4 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the Western Kids Open. Four of our athletes made the trip, and they did not disappoint.
They came away with medals in both gi and no-gi, but more importantly, they showed incredible sportsmanship and a willingness to learn from every single match.
Proud of this group for setting the tone for the month.

๐จ๐ฆ Wishing Talia the best on the international stage ๐จ๐ฆ
We are incredibly proud to see Talia Pavlic representing Team Canada at the 2026 U17 Pan American Wrestling Championships in Panama City. Competing in the 46 kg womenโs division, this is a huge milestone and a reflection of her dedication, discipline and commitment to the sport.
From early mornings to late nights on the mat, Talia has put in the work, and now she gets the opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the Americas.
Beyond the competition, she will also be part of an international training camp, gaining valuable experience and continuing to grow as an athlete.
Talia, we are all behind you. Represent with pride, compete with heart, and enjoy every moment of this experience.
Good luck from all of us at WAMMA NextGen ๐ช๐ฅ๐จ๐ฆ

WAMMA NextGen sent 5 athletes to the Alberta Open this weekend. Each athlete delivered strong performances on the mats.
Jordan Blais competed in the 70 kg division, stepping into a new weight class and securing gold. His bracket featured a notably heated and hard-fought match against Tyssen Hansen of the Calgary Dinos.
Anton S., joining us from Germany this year, competing in the U17 80 kg division, had a dominant showing, winning all of his matches to earn gold.
TJ Franzman competed in the U19 60 kg division, battling through a competitive bracket to finish 3rd.
In the younger divisions, Lucas (Novice) and Matteo (Tyke) both double bracketed, taking on multiple back-to-back matches, and each secured gold in both weight classes they entered.
We are very proud of our wrestlers โ not only for their results, but for how they conduct themselves, their sportsmanship, and their dedication to becoming the best they can be.
A great weekend of competition and development for the team! Way to go !!

Congratulations to our four athletes who competed in Steinbach, Manitoba, on March 7 at the Revelation Submission Only Tournament. It was a small but mighty group, led by Coach Jeff, and they worked their way to a fourth-place team finish.
Together, they earned two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, with one of our athletes stepping into BJJ competition for the very first time.
We're proud of the progress, effort and courage they showed throughout the day. Win or lose, our athletes continue to represent NextGen with strong team support, great sportsmanship and the right attitude.
