A Historic Day for Cricket in Manitoba!

Today marks a major milestone for cricket in our province with the official opening of the new turf wickets at Assiniboine Park.

These international-standard turf pitches will provide our athletes with the opportunity to train and compete on high-quality surfaces right here in Manitoba, helping develop the next generation of players and raising the standard of the game across the province.

Cricket has been played at Assiniboine Park for generations, and today’s opening represents another important chapter in the growth of our sport. These facilities will support youth development, local leagues, provincial programs, and national and international events in the years ahead.

The Manitoba Cricket Association extends its sincere gratitude to the leadership and staff of Assiniboine Park Conservancy, the Government of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, our community partners, volunteers, clubs, and cricket supporters who helped make this project a reality.

A special thank you to Premier Wab Kinew, Mayor Scott Gillingham, Mondetta and Princess Auto for their support of cricket development in Manitoba.

Together, we are building a stronger future for cricket and creating opportunities for athletes of all ages to achieve their dreams.

🏏 The future of cricket in Manitoba is brighter than ever!

A Piece of Manitoba Cricket History

Throwback to August 10, 1937

This remarkable photograph captures a historic match between M.C.C. (Marylebone Cricket Club), London, England and St. George’s Cricket Club, Winnipeg, Canada.

More than 88 years ago, international cricket was already being played in Winnipeg, highlighting the deep roots and rich heritage of our sport in Manitoba. Long before modern facilities and organized leagues, passionate cricketers were building the foundation of the game we enjoy today.

As we continue to grow cricket across the province, it is important to recognize and celebrate the pioneers who helped establish the sport in our community.

Cricket has been part of Manitoba’s story for generations—and its future has never been brighter.
