BE RESPECTFUL & TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY

Respect goes both ways.

Remember, times when coaches drive you to shows, take you to training, pick you up and drop you off, often in their own time and at their own expense. They don’t have to do any of that. They do it because they care and want to see you succeed.

Coaches give up evenings, weekends and time with their own families to help you improve. In return, all that’s expected is respect, discipline, accountability and the right attitude.

Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is recognising when you’ve made one, owning it, learning from it and moving forward.

Boxing is about becoming a better person as well as a better boxer.

Respect your club. Respect your teammates. Respect your coaches. Respect the sport. Always hold yourself accountable when necessary.

I started Dempseys Boxing Academy to give local people more opportunities to box under England Boxing.

I’d boxed myself and coached on and off over the years, but I’d never run a boxing club. It’s been a dream come true, but it’s also taken a huge amount of hard work to get it to where it is today.

What people don’t always see or understand is that the club is run for free. It’s never been about financial gain it’s about passion. I still work a full-time job, I have three young children and a partner at home, and in the months when the club doesn’t cover the rent, I make up the difference myself.

The club doesn’t pay for the diesel. It doesn’t pay for the hours spent coaching, travelling to sparring sessions, or taking boxers to competitions. Even the money from my 1-to-1 sessions goes straight back into the club to help keep things going.

The coaches do it because they love boxing and genuinely believe in the positive impact the sport can have on people’s lives.

Dempseys Boxing Academy has never been about making money. It’s about giving back to the sport and creating opportunities for others.

That said, without members paying their subs, there is no club. It’s as simple as that. The subs keep the doors open that’s it.

Other then paying your subs all we ask in return is you Turn up you Train hard. Listen. Learn. Do your best, both in and out of the club. And most of all be respectful.

One of the reasons why we are registered as a charity was so we could be completely open and transparent with our local community.

Over the last year, we’ve given opportunities to people who otherwise might not have had the chance. Next season, we’ll be doing exactly the same for those who are consistently training and putting the work in.

Put in the work, stay consistent, and graft week in, week out. Those who commit, improve, and show dedication will get their opportunity when the time is right!!!
