This Bike Week, we’re celebrating the power of cycling to transform communities 🚲

At Two Mile Ash School in Milton Keynes, what started as a response to congestion and safety concerns has grown into a whole-school movement helping pupils and families build healthier, more active habits every day. From their weekly Bike Bus to embedding cycling into the curriculum, the school has created safer streets, more confident young riders, and a stronger sense of community. 🚸✨

It’s a brilliant example of what’s possible when leadership, partnerships and purpose come together to change the way we move.

June Partner Event - Connection Through Place 🤝

Place matters, It shapes how people experience the world around them. 🌍 From the opportunities they have to be active, to the connections they build and the environments they navigate every day. Access to spaces, local relationships, and community context all influence who gets to move, how, and why.

Place-based working recognises that no two communities are the same. By understanding local needs, listening to lived experience, and aligning people and resources, we can create more inclusive, relevant solutions that tackle inactivity and reduce inequalities in a meaningful, lasting way 👏.

At our June Partner Event, we’ll be sharing how MK is bringing this to life through:
- A snapshot of the Milton Keynes Place Expansion Programme (PEP)
- Insight connecting national strategy to local delivery
- Real stories from partners working in communities across Bucks and MK

This event will be hosted in Milton Keynes 📍, connecting directly with the place where this work is happening.

⭐ Securing the Place Universal Offer and what it means for Buckinghamshire 🌍

This investment will initially focus on Aylesbury South-West📍, where levels of inactivity remain high and wider challenges such a deprivation and access to safe and welcoming spaces continue to shape people’s ability to be active.

In Aylesbury South-West only 44.9% of children and young people in the area are currently active, and levels of deprivation and low-income households are significantly higher than the county average. 📉

This investment will support partners and communities to work together to address the wider systems that shape activity, from access to green spaces and safe routes, to transport, housing and local environments.

By starting here, we have the opportunity too:
- Work closely with communities to understand what matters most
- Test and learn what works
- Build stronger, more connected systems across partners
- Create insight that can shape future work across Bucks.

Crucially, learning from this work will be shared across Buckinghamshire to support wider, long‑term change.

What is the Place Universal Offer?

You may have seen our recent announcement about Leap securing investment through Sport England’s Place Universal Offer, but what does that actually mean? 🤔

Sport England’s Place Universal Offer is about long‑term, whole‑system change, focused on the communities facing the biggest barriers to being active. It’s designed to do things differently.

Rather than focusing on individual programmes, it’s about understanding the unique needs of communities and working together to create the right conditions for people to be active.

This means:
- Listening to communities and co-designing solutions
- Bringing organisations together across sectors
- Addressing wider barriers like access, environment and inequalities
- Creating long-term, sustainable change.

In Bucks, this work is being shaped and delivered through strong collaboration across the Place Universal Programme Board, chaired by David Munday, ensuring a coordinated, locally driven approach
We’re excited to be part of this journey and to continue working alongside partners to make a lasting impact. ✨

This we’re supporting Mind to raise awareness and to champion the role of sport and physical activity in supporting mental health. 🌟 💚

Great mental health care is human, It’s the sports coach who asks, “Is everything ok?” when you miss a session. It’s the fitness instructor who asks how they can support you before your first exercise class.

Physical activity can be a powerful tool for mental wellbeing, helping to lift mood, reduce stress, improve focus and support better sleep and importantly, it doesn’t have to be structured sport. Small actions like a walk, stretch or informal activity can make a meaningful difference.

We’re encouraging all our partners to 📢:
- Create safe, inclusive spaces where people feel comfortable to move and connect
- Embed simple check-ins and supportive conversations into sessions
- Encourage participation at every level remembering that every movement counts
- Upskill teams to confidently signpost support when it’s needed

Because when we take action together, we help ensure no one is left behind!

You can explore Mind’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2026: Sport and Physical Activity Pack, which brings together practical resources, guidance on safe and effective programme delivery, and access to online training courses to help staff and volunteers confidently support mental wellbeing through physical activity. ⬇️ (Linked in the comments)

We had a great day yesterday at Stoke Mandeville Stadium for the latest School Games event 🚴‍♀️

Our team supported an inclusive adaptive cycling session in partnership with Active in the Community CIC. We're proud to see young people from across Buckinghamshire with various SEN needs taking part, building confidence and enjoying cycling in ways that worked for them.

Despite the rainy day, it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and positive experiences on the track being made.

Creating opportunities like this is what the School Games is all about, making physical activity accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for every young person. 🎉
