โ›ฐ๏ธ JOE TAKES ON THE LAP!

While those lot were enjoying the sunshine, Joe Horsley chose something slightly less sensibleโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Joe completed The Lap โ€“ Anticlockwise on Saturday in absolutely horrendous weather, covering a whopping 46.50 miles, with 9,262ft of ascent, in 12 hours 19 minutes! ๐Ÿคฏโ›ฐ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

An incredible achievement and some serious determination to keep going in those conditions. Massive congratulations, Joe! ๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒณ PARKRUN

Saturday morning also saw 45 Cheetahs taking part across 9 different parkrun events. Barrow, Clumber Park, Ford, Haigh Woodland, Millom, Penrith, Philips Park, Krakow ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฑ and Crichton.

A very special mention to Paula Herbert, who completed her 400th parkrun at Crichton! ๐ŸŽ‰4๏ธโƒฃ0๏ธโƒฃ0๏ธโƒฃ

A few fellow Cheetahs made the trip to celebrate the milestone with her too ๐Ÿ˜Š

From 5Ks to half marathons to casually running 46ยฝ miles over the fells in horrific weather ๐Ÿ˜ณโ€ฆ another weekend showing just how much our Cheetahs get up to!

Well done everyone!! Wear those medals, milestones and aching legs with pride ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

What a turnout from the Cheetahs at last nightโ€™s Hoad Hill Harriers Autumn 5K! ๐Ÿ™Œ

A fantastic bunch of our members headed over to Ulverston for an evening of running, racing, supporting each other and representing the club. Well done to you all ๐Ÿ‘

A big thank you to our Run Leaders who stayed behind in Barrow and made sure it was business as usual back home! ๐Ÿ™Œ Thanks to them, our Couch to 5K Week 3 session, continuous run AND track session could all still go ahead despite so many Cheetahs heading to Ulverston ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

Finally, A huge thank you to Hoad Hill Harriers and everyone involved in putting on another great event and to Keith for once again capturing fab photos of everyone taking part โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

MEET OUR NEW ASSISTANT RUN LEADERS ๐Ÿ†

A huge congratulations to Paula, Lynne, Paula, Gemma, Steph, Karen, Charlotte, Bill and Craig who all completed their Assistant Run Leader training tonight and are now joining our Cheetah Run Leader team! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‰

They spent the evening learning more about supporting our sessions, keeping groups safe and together, warm ups and cool downs, encouraging runners and dealing with the various things that can crop up on a run.

Most importantly, theyโ€™ve volunteered to give up some of their own time to help keep our sessions friendly, safe, supportive and inclusive for everyone and weโ€™re incredibly grateful to have them on board!

Please give our newest Assistant Run Leaders a big Cheetah welcome!

๐Ÿ† COUCH TO 5K โ€” WEEK 1 COMPLETE! โœ…

Thatโ€™s Session 2 done and Week 1 officially in the bag! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

Tonight our C25Kers completed:

๐Ÿƒ 1 minute jogging
๐Ÿšถ 4 minutes walking
๐Ÿ” Repeated throughout the session

And they absolutely smashed it! ๐Ÿ‘

Tonightโ€™s group covered around 2.5 miles in total, which is a fantastic effort for the very first week of the programme. Remember, this isnโ€™t about pace or how far anyone can run. Right now itโ€™s simply about getting moving, taking those first steps and building up gradually each week.

Unfortunately everyone made a suspiciously quick getaway at the end tonight before I remembered to take a group photo. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ“ธ

So the Strava evidence will have to do!

Clearly everyone knew a photo was coming and made a tactical early exit. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Nice tryโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll be quicker next week! ๐Ÿ“ธ

Whether you joined us for one session this week or both, well done! Youโ€™ve started, and thatโ€™s the hardest bit. ๐Ÿ’ช

Next week we build on it. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ† AND THEYโ€™RE OFF!โ€ฆ WELCOME TO OUR NEW COUCH TO 5K CREW! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

A massive WELL DONE to everyone who joined us tonight for the first session of our brand new Couch to 5K programme! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

For some of you, simply turning up tonight was probably the hardest part, but you did it, and then you absolutely smashed Session One! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

There were plenty of smiles, lots of encouragement and some brilliant running. Most importantly, everyone worked at their own pace, supported each other and got those first running intervals in the bag. โœ…

Tonight might only have been the beginning, but every single person in this photo has just taken that first step towards running 5K. ๐Ÿฅฐ

A huge welcome to the Walney Wind Cheetahs family, we hope youโ€™re ready for the journey! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

and rememberโ€ฆ

Slow it down. Keep turning up. Trust the programme.

Weโ€™ll take care of the whistles ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ“ฃ

๐Ÿ† YOU DONโ€™T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

For our final Couch to 5K story before the new programme begins tonight, we hear from Julie, who completed our last C25K earlier this year. ๐Ÿ…

Julie joined the programme alongside a friend so they could encourage and support each other. While her friend attended both sessions each week, Julie could only make our Wednesday evening sessions, another great reminder that you donโ€™t have to attend twice a week to take part. โค๏ธ

Hereโ€™s what Julie had to say:

โ€œI joined Couch to 5K with a friend and we decided we were going to support each other through it.

I was only able to attend the Wednesday sessions each week, but the support I received was brilliant. I regularly had a run leader alongside me who encouraged me, kept me going and helped me achieve times I was really proud of.

I was also introduced to using interval timers, which became really valuable when I wanted to train by myself between sessions.

The camaraderie throughout the programme was fantastic. Everyone supported and encouraged each other, whatever pace we were running.

We both achieved the goals weโ€™d set ourselves and were incredibly proud to finally have those Couch to 5K medals around our necks. ๐Ÿฅ‡

WWC is a brilliant running club with fantastic coaches, run leaders and runners. My advice to anyone thinking about joining is simple, just come along and enjoy it! ๐Ÿฅฐโ€

And Julie certainly kept running after C25K! She has now completed an incredible 94 parkruns! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘

Just six more until the big 100! ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘€

Another brilliant example that Couch to 5K isnโ€™t necessarily the end goal. Sometimes itโ€™s just the beginning. ๐Ÿ†โค๏ธ

And tonight, we get to start that journey all over again with a brand new group.

If youโ€™ve been reading these stories and thinking โ€œmaybe I could do itโ€ฆโ€

Come and find out.

You donโ€™t have to be fast.
You donโ€™t have to make every session.
You donโ€™t have to already be a runner.

You just have to turn up. Weโ€™ll do the rest together. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ† 12 YEARS OLD. COUCH TO 5K AND LOOK AT HIM NOW! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒ

At just 12 years old, Keaton joined the adults on our Couch to 5K programme earlier this year.

Already an active member of our WWC Cubs, Keaton completed the programme alongside our adult runners, supported every step of the way by our run leaders and the rest of the group. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

His mum Mel shared his story:

โ€œKeaton is a 12-year-old boy with autism and an active member of Walney Wind Cheetahs Cubs. Throughout Couch to 5K, the support he received from the runners and coaches was exceptional. The regular high-fives, encouragement and positive reinforcement really helped his confidence and ability grow.โ€ โค๏ธ

And he certainly hasnโ€™t stopped running since!

After graduating, Keaton ran 28:04 at Barrow parkrun, took part in his first organised 5K at Run The Edge alongside his dad and now regularly joins our Monday evening runs and adult track sessions.

And just this weekend he took another huge chunk off his parkrun time at Blackpool parkrun, a brilliant new PB of 26:36! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘

Running has become an important part of Keatonโ€™s routine and he particularly enjoys training alongside his mum and dad, as well as being part of the wider Cheetahs family.

His progress and growing confidence have been fantastic to see and show just what can happen when young runners are given a friendly, encouraging and supportive environment. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ†

And for anyone wondering, our adult running sessions โ€” including Couch to 5K โ€” are open to ages 12+, with those aged 12 and over able to run with us independently.

Our next Couch to 5K starts today! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

So whether youโ€™re 12 or considerably further away from 12 ๐Ÿ˜‚, come along and give it a go.

You never know where that first run might lead. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ†

5:50pm meet at Park Vale, Walney tonight!

23/08/2026

๐Ÿ† FROM SUPPORTING THE RUNNERSโ€ฆ TO BECOMING ONE ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Running was already very much a family affair in Christinaโ€™s household.

Christinaโ€™s partner Dave runs, their two boys run with our WWC Cubs and the family regularly travel around the country ticking off different junior parkruns.

There was just one holdoutโ€ฆ Christina. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Earlier this year she finally gave in and joined our Couch to 5K programme. She went from being the only non runner in the family to completing the full programme and earning her C25K medal! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

And thatโ€™s exactly what Couch to 5K is about.

You donโ€™t need any previous running experience. You donโ€™t need to be able to keep up with somebody else. It doesnโ€™t matter whether your partner runs, your kids run, or everyone around you seems fitter than you.

You start where YOU are, and we build from there.

But thereโ€™s another important part to Christinaโ€™s storyโ€ฆ

She could only make our Wednesday sessions.

While our programme runs on Mondays AND Wednesdays, we know work, family and life can sometimes make getting to both impossible. Christina completed the programme by coming along once a week and still got there. ๐Ÿ’ช

So if youโ€™ve seen our posts and thought:

โ€œIโ€™d love to do it, but I canโ€™t make both nightsโ€ฆโ€

Donโ€™t let that stop you.

Come when you can. Start where you are. Weโ€™ll support you along the way. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

With the support of the group and our volunteer run leaders, those first short running intervals gradually become longer onesโ€ฆ until suddenly youโ€™re doing something you probably didnโ€™t think you could do when you first turned up. ๐Ÿฅฐ

So if youโ€™re currently the Christina of your family while everyone else disappears off runningโ€ฆ

This could be your turn ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ†
