FOOBS Trail and Fun Runs 2026 27/08/2026

FOOBS Trial and Fun Runs - Sunday 11th October 2026

Old Basing and Lychpit Recreation Ground
The FOOBS Trail and Fun Runs return this October, inviting runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy a scenic and friendly trail running experience on the outskirts of Old Basing. This much-loved annual event takes participants through picturesque countryside while celebrating the strong community spirit of the village.

With chip-timed 10K and 6K trail runs, plus a 2K fun run for families and younger runners, there is something for everyone. The event is proudly supported by the local community, parish council, and local running clubs, and is known for its welcoming atmosphere, excellent organisation, and well-earned post-run treats. Most importantly, all proceeds help raise vital funds for Friends of Old Basing Schools (F.O.O.B.S.), directly supporting local schools and children.

Whether you are chasing a personal best or simply taking part for fun, the FOOBS Trail and Fun Runs offer a rewarding day out with purpose at its heart.

What does the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation fund ?
HIWCF makes grants across Hampshire (including Portsmouth and Southampton) and the Isle of Wight. The majority of HIWCF funding is prioritised for community organisations (a small number of funds provide support to individuals).

Where do HIWCF funds come from?
Grant-making programmes are generously funded by donors – these include local companies, individuals, families, charitable trusts, government agencies and local partnerships. We work with our donors to highlight important funding issues within local communities. The majority of our donors prefer to support smaller community organisations that are based in and working for the communities of Hampshire (including Southampton and Portsmouth) and/or the Isle of Wight.

How likely am I to receive a grant?
All HIWCF grant programmes receive more applications than we can fund. To help community organisations target their time towards grant programmes that they are eligible for, we use an β€˜Eligibility Form’. When you apply to any of our open funding programmes you will be required to complete an Eligibility Form before accessing the Application Form. The Eligibility Form asks you 10 simple tick-box questions about your organisation and your funding needs. If you are not sure whether your organisation or project idea meets the criteria, please contact us on 01962 798700.

What makes a strong application?
HIWCF runs grant programmes of all shapes and sizes. Please check our grants page for details of grant programmes that are open, or soon to open. While the aims and themes of these grant programmes may differ, there are some elements that HIWCF looks for in all strong applications:

A clear explanation of why the people targeted by your project need support (your β€œchosen community”).
A clear plan of activities that relate to the criteria set out for the grant programme.
A clear explanation of how your planned activities will create positive changes within your chosen community.
Planned activities that are shaped by your chosen community.
A clear and realistic budget that sets out the detail about how you plan to use the grant.
A level of unrestricted reserves that is appropriate for your organisation.
