This weekend just gone in the Riviera Box Cup, due to Josh‘s last minute injury having broken one of his hands we proceeded with two of our boxers.

Club Captain Harry Ingram had a stunning weekend losing out through a very close points decision. We discovered he had Jamal Franklin who is possibly the most experienced lad in the entire tournament having had almost 70 contests. This lad is a national champion and has won gold medals at the Harringay Box Cup and also in this same Riviera Cup two previous years running stopping opponents on the way. We knew this was a tall order for Harry because Harry has had just over 20 contests of his own. So the experience difference was vast leaving, out Jamal‘s incredible accolades too. After the first round Harry was clearly ahead having administered an exceptional round of boxing giving Jamal little opportunity to reply successfully. Moving into round two and three where Jamal picked Harry to the post in each of these rounds. Harry was never out of his depth at all and took a share even of these rounds. At the end of the contest, I’m pretty sure no one could’ve been certain as to the result. A close points loss to a kid of this calibre feels like a win to us considering that Harry has only stepped up to open class about a month ago. Congratulations Harry you’ve shown that even with your intermediate level experience you can hang with the very best in the entire country.

This will be Harry‘s last appearance for the club because he is about to embark upon a military career as an officer. The entire club wish Harry the very best of success but each and everyone of us will be sad to see him go. He has not only been a fantastic competitor throughout his time here but as club captain has also played an integral role in how the club runs and operates. Good luck with your future Harry, you know you’re always welcome here and we know that you will pop in and see us at every opportunity that you get. The army are especially lucky to be having you mate.

Our second competitor for the weekend was Swaylee Brazil. Swaylee came away from this tournament as the Box Cup champion in his category, picking up Gold. Swaylee was fantastic over the weekend and on finals day put in a very dominant front foot performance, giving two heavy standing eight counts on the way to his victory.

Congratulations to young Swaylee for ending his season on this high and alongside Harry doing not only himself but the club incredibly proud.

A great first day in the Ringside Box Cup today. Harry Ingram boxed a surgical masterclass for a unanimous win.

Joshua Morrison fought a very tough strong lad from the Lion Boxing Academy in London (current London Champion). Bringing home a 4/1 split win victory.

What a fight it was. Josh was on the canvas for the first time in his career within 20 seconds of round one and shortly after he had to take a second standing 8 count too.

His heart, relentless engine and desire led him to return the favour to his opponent twice. As the bout progressed Josh’s superior engine took over as he finished much stronger than his opponent.

Well done lads both of you.
