Last weekend we teamed up with Trentham Canoe Club to put on a forward paddling technique workshop. A big thank you to Trentham for being hosts for the day and we hope everyone enjoyed it who attended from both teams.

Designed to help paddlers of all abilities improve their efficiency, speed, and confidence on the water. During the course, Chris Sze taught the fundamentals of good a paddling technique, including posture, boat control, paddle placement, stroke mechanics, and efficient power transfer. This is all intended make the kayak move more smoothly through the water with less effort. Through a combination of practical exercises on dry land with the use of an ergo and on-water coaching, paddlers gained a better understanding of how small technical improvements can make a significant difference to their performance.

EDDIE TEAMS UP FOR 2 BRONZES IN EUROPEAN WILDWATER RACING U23s AT GRANDTULLY.

Words & Pictures: John Mackintosh.

It's been a very busy, enjoyable and successful week for Eddie as part of the Team GB U23 squad at the U23 and Junior European Wildwater Racing Championships at Grandtully on the mighty River Tay in Scotland.

Apparently this was the first major international canoeing championships in Scotland since the Commonwealth Games of 1986 when canoeing featured as a demonstration sport. It was also the first major Wildwater championships in the UK since the 1981 World Championships in Bala. Does anybody remember that?

The first 2 days were dedicated to Classic racing over a 4.3km course. Eddie paddled very well with 9th place in the individual K1 event out of 40 paddlers and followed that up with a bronze medal in C2 Teams race where 3 C2s paddle together (video of the fun below). He also competed strongly in K1 Teams race (6th) and C2 race (5th)

Then it was over to the approx 500m sprint course through the legendary Tully rapids (which also featured at finish of Classic race). Eddie excelled by qualifying for the K1 final, the only male British boat to achieve this. He also made the C2 final with Harry Sewell-Catchpole achieving 6th place. The competition closed with the Sprint Teams races. In was only 2 seconds off a medal. The best was saved to last when the GB C2 Team powered through to take another bronze, pipping the Slovaks by a second.

More outstanding results for the MADCC-connected Christie sisters Kerry and Emma who added to their staggering collection of precious metal with 3 more gold medals in C2 Classic and Sprint, and K1 Classic Teams (with Freya Pryce). The super sisters also collected a bronze in C2 Sprint Teams race. Team GB finished a very creditable joint 4th in overall medals table alongside Italy and just one gold behind Germany.

Big congratulations to Michelle and Jacob, two of our members for completing the 97 mile Cheshire Ring Canal Network.

Over four long days they completed The Cheshire Ring by kayak, tackling 97 miles of canal, 92 locks and 5 tunnels. Contending with a dodgy set of wheels and some high banks due to low water levels. This challenge supported Jacob's fundraising for the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Poland.

Well done to both of you.

Brilliant to see so many of the race team out for our end of race season social. Thanks to Nigel for organising the pizza orders and tables and Ainsleigh for wrangling the best date to get most people there. It was a lovely evening at in Macc, thanks to them for being able to accommodate us all.

WFS have been very generous and donated money to the club help us provide toilet facilities and medals for our race this year and in previous years. We're all very grateful for their generosity. It's lovely to see local businesses supporting local sports clubs and in turn for us to support them (in return for tasty pizza).

A few of us were reflecting over dinner how far the team has come and how much it has grown over the past few years. It truly is amazing to see everyone having such a good time on the water and at these socials. At this rate I think we'll need to hire the entire pizzeria for next year.

Well done again for all of your efforts, for this seasons success and the ones prior that got us here.
