MAT® is a non medical form of manual therapy designed to systematically test, treat and maintain optimal muscle function. What is Muscle Inhibition?

MAT® views muscle tightness as being secondary to muscle weakness. Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a very specific and unique non medical process for testing, treating and maintaining optimal muscle contractile capability. It's the very first step in the process to ensuring that the muscular system is prepared, ready and stable to fight the continuous forces of gravity and to withstand the f

POSTURE IMPROVED IN 60 MINS…

Muscles move bones, and muscles hold bones in proper alignment. So if your postural muscles are inhibited, then gravity will win, and slouching will be the result!

Structure dictates function, but it works the other way too—over time, function dictates structure—so if your inhibited muscles result in poor posture for decades, then your spine and passive structures will remodel to the slouched shape.

As can be seen here with my client… despite activating all 14 of his thoracic spinal extensor muscles today (they were all inhibited!), he’s still having a hard time extending his thoracic spine—decades of poor posture due to the weakness in his t-spine extensors means that his structure has changed.

His resting posture is much improved though, and with a little more work, over time, he’ll gain more mobility through his T-spine.

FASCIA ISN’T PASSIVE…

Most people still think fascia is just some passive wrapping paper for the muscles. A bit of “connective tissue” that sits there doing not much.

But here’s the truth:

Fascia is one of the most densely innervated sensory tissues in your entire body.

It’s loaded with mechanoreceptors, nociceptors, proprioceptors, and autonomic afferents — all constantly sending information to your brain about load, pressure, stretch, threat, and safety.

Which means fascia doesn’t just respond to movement…
It shapes movement.

It influences:
⚡ Muscle activation
⚡ Stability
⚡ Pain
⚡ Force output
⚡ Breathing
⚡ The way your nervous system protects you

Not passive.
Not secondary.
Not background anatomy.

Fascia is an active sensory organ — and when the signals coming from it get noisy, threatened, or altered, your entire nervous system is affected.

Weakness, tightness, instability, pain…
They’re often not “muscle problems” at all. They’re signal problems.

Restore the signal → restore the body.

If you want to find the weak links in your own sensory system, drop me a message.

🚨*ONE* WEAK MUSCLE CAN SHUT YOUR WHOLE BODY DOWN…

Watch firsthand how one single inhibited muscle can make your entire body weak, negatively impacting your health. And conversely, how activating weak muscles can make your whole body strong and improve your overall health and wellbeing.

⚡️ DID YOU KNOW MAT® ISN’T JUST ABOUT MUSCLES?

It’s about whole body wellness—here’s why…

One weak muscle can trigger a dorsal vagal shutdown—sending your whole system into distress.

This shutdown can show up as:
🧠 Depression & brain fog
🥴 Gut issues & IBS-like symptoms
🛡 Weak immunity & inflammation
🪫 Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia & hormone imbalance

By restoring muscle function, MAT® can also reset your nervous system—unlocking not just strength, but also health, wellness & longevity.

👉 Save this carousel & share it—most people have no idea how far-reaching muscle inhibition really is.

The first ALIGNED & ACTIVATED workshop at the gym last Friday went really well. 💪

We worked on right hip flexion. Here’s some feedback…

• Improved running performance: Multiple personal bests, faster pace, and segment records achieved.

• Better right leg mobility:
Able to kick right leg up to head height for the first time.

• Enhanced running feel:
Run felt smoother and more enjoyable.

• Greater stability:
Noticed reduced wobbling compared to previous sets.

• Overall physical improvement:
Clear difference in strength, control, and efficiency during training and running.

If you’re in Brighton come join the other achievers this Friday 5pm at the SeaGym.

ALIGNED & ACTIVATED WORKSHOP: OZORA 2025

What an honour it was to have had the opportunity to present my workshop at the Ozora festival this summer ☺️🙏

We had a full house/tent, and everyone embraced the teachings and did really well increasing both mobility and stability simultaneously, by working *with* the body (activating) instead of against the body (stretching). 👏

The routine I took them through was based on my Get Activated™️ programme of isometrics.

I’m running a 50% discount on this programme for the next 48 hours—if the link below still works then the offer is still available.

It’s a downloadable pdf plus an instructional video that walks you through the entire routine from head to foot.

Here’s the link which includes the half price offer:

Enjoy! 💪🤓

A new meta-analysis of 161 controlled trials of ~12k participants compared the effectiveness of different types of spinal manipulation therapy from chiropractors and physical therapists.

The overall conclusion was that “pain and disability outcomes following spinal manipulation therapy did not depend greatly on how the thrust was delivered, in what region it was performed, or whether it was targeted at a painful and restricted site or more generically.” There was actually some trend for general therapy not aimed at the symptomatic region to be most effective, clearly debunking the chiropractic idea that the treatment ‘puts the bones back into their proper position’ or anything like that.

Mechanistically, manual therapy is effectively no more than the application of mechanical pressure (no pun intended). Most of the pain reduction resulting from this is neural in effect, not a magical instantaneous healing of tissue damage. Prior meta-analyses have found modest to non-existent treatment effects of manual therapy.

There’s also a significant psychological (placebo) effect, especially from more pleasant and relaxing manual therapy like massage, as it makes you feel better and cared for. This arguably provides more of the treatment benefit than any physiological effect on the tissue.

I’m super excited to be presenting my Get Activated workshop at the Ozora Festival this year! 💪🤩

Ozora Festival, held annually near Dádpuszta, Hungary, is one of Europe’s most prominent psychedelic trance festivals.

Within the psychedelic trance and transformational festival scenes, Ozora is considered one of the leading events globally, often compared to Portugal’s Boom Festival, and pulling in up to 90,000 attendees.

Beyond music, Ozora is renowned for its immersive experience that combines art installations, workshops, performances, and a strong emphasis on community and spiritual exploration.

This holistic approach has earned it a reputation as a transformative gathering, attracting a diverse international audience seeking more than just musical entertainment, making it one of the world’s most culturally and artistically significant transformational gatherings.

See you there Ozorians!! 🙌

TIM’S GOLF SWING JUST LEVELED UP! ⛳️🏌️‍♂️
▪️
Tim came in with a hip internal rotation limitation that was restricting his backswing, but after improving the contractile efficiency of his hip muscles (took 30 minutes), he’s gained the mobility and control he needed to rotate smoothly and powerfully.
▪️
Now, he’s loading up better than ever and driving the ball with more efficiency. 💪🔥 If your swing feels stuck, it might not be flexibility—it might be muscle inhibition. MAT® can help!

⚠️DANGERS OF CHIROPRACTIC☠️
▪️
Research shows that Chiropractic neck “adjustments” are the most dangerous form of manipulation, and the risks far out way any potential benefits—when death is a side effect, it’s probably not a good idea!

▪️
Numerous deaths have occurred after chiropractic manipulations. The risks of this treatment by far outweigh its benefit…

▪️
The literature does not demonstrate that the benefits of manipulation of the cervical spine outweigh the risks:

▪️
Neurological issues:
“Four hundred eighty-six neurologists were surveyed, 177 responded; 55 strokes, 16 myelopathies, and 30 radiculopathies were reported. Patients were between the ages of 21 and 60, and the majority experienced complications following cervical manipulation.”
▪️
https://n.neurology.org/content/45/6/1213.short
▪️
“Informed consent was obtained in only one of ten patients. Thus, patients at risk for stroke after chiropractic manipulation may not be identified a priori. Neurological deficits may be severely disabling and are potentially life threatening.”

Always choose modalities that work *with* the body, such as Muscle Activation Techniques®, not *against* the body, like Chiropractic.
▪️
By working *with* the body, activating and optimising the function of the muscles that are responsible for taking your joints to where you want to move to, death will *never* be a side effect. However, forcing a range by “adjusting”, cracking, “manipulating”, loosening purposefully orchestrated protective tightness, well, at least now you know, and you can now make an informed decision based on the risk:benefit analysis I’ve provided herein.

MY MAT® CREDENTIALS:
▪️
I first began officially studying Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT®) back in 2010 when I did the MAT® Jumpstart course here in England. During this 2 day/3 weekend course I learned how to assess range of motion and test for neuromuscular dysfunction, and perform positional isometric contractions to correct muscle imbalances for all the major areas of the body.
▪️
Three years, and many happy clients later, I wanted to take my knowledge and skill set to the next level, so I began the MAT® internship in Denver, CO, to learn how to test and activate individual muscles by applying digital force application techniques and therefore become a full body MAT® Specialist.
▪️
The internship required me to travel to Denver for the weekend every month for 10 months—this was without a doubt the most challenging year of my life, both financially, and energy wise—a year of jet lag anyone?!
▪️
I graduated in 2014 as a full body MAT® Specialist. I then continued my MAT® education, flying out to Denver over the next 10 years, to study the Mastery Level certifications in each of the individual body parts, to date successfully qualifying in:
☑️Mastery Upper Body
☑️Mastery Foot Function
☑️Mastery Cervical Spine
☑️Mastery Trunk & Spine
▪️
Not surprisingly there are only 7 fully certified MAT® Specialists here in the UK (including myself). If you have one in your town or city then you are very blessed indeed! I have clients that fly in from multiple countries to come and see me for MAT® treatments.
▪️
Back in 2014, I developed a method for administering MAT® online, so over the last decade I’ve been helping people from all over the world to perform better, feel better and move better, via Skype video calls.
▪️
I offer a free no-obligation consultation, so if you’d like to find out how MAT® could help you, either online or face to face, then drop me a message and we can arrange a chat.
