Parents / Community

We’ve spoken to a few parents who are concerned with their children’s high school place or lack of place at their chosen school.

We will therefore be holding a meeting in our hall on Monday 9th March 5pm-6pm for parents to come in. Councillor Bridgeman has said he will be here to take any concerns parents may have.

We hope this helps a bit.

Parents,

Every Monday we will have a ‘Family Fun’ session in the hall. This is in partnership with Sport Cardiff and StreetGames.

The session is a fun time for parents and children to make and play games, spend time together, meet other parents and children - and generally have fun as a family!!

It’s a free session so please take full advantage!!

No need to book - just turn up - 3.30pm - 4.30pm at Llanrumney Phoenix Boxing Club.

Members, Parents, Kids, Friends, Community...

Last week some of the 6-9's came home with a piece of paper asking what they would like to see within the building. There is a form for everyone else we just didn't get around to handing them out.

We're asking all members and families to help us. We are applying for lottery funding and need to get your thoughts and ideas of what we can do to help our community (other than boxing).

* What can we do to help support our community?
* What would you like to see in the building?
* What opportunities would you like us to offer?
* What are your day to day struggles - how can we help?

If you could have a think and either comment, or drop us a message that would be amazing. Your input is valued and we'd love to know what more we could be doing.

Thank you

As a boxing club we’ve been working hard behind the scenes for the past 6 or 7 months to secure a youth provision to run 2 evenings a week within the hall of the club. Last night - this was granted!! We’d like to say a huge thank you to Cllr Lee Bridgeman, Cllr Heather Joyce and Cllr Keith Jones for supporting us in this. Also a huge thank you to James Healan of Cardiff Youth Service for giving this the go ahead. The youth provision will be headed by youth workers and volunteers and will be for young people age 13-19. We hope the community will get behind us and support us in making a difference to the young people of Llanrumney. Thank you!!

Just a reminder that we have the PTKD (Put The Knives Down) meeting at the boxing club tonight - will be a good opportunity for the community and businesses to come together and see how we can help the youngsters we all know! Thank you to all the people who have been in touch to offer volunteering opportunities - this is only the start!! See you all at 6pm - Llanrumney Phoenix Boxing Club, Shaw Close, Llanrumney, CF3 5NX

As a boxing club - we keep asking for votes so thought I’d give you a bit of background on what it is we do!
We’re a community based boxing club in Llanrumney - we are completely volunteer run - coaches give up their time 3+ nights a week 52 weeks of the year to help develop, support, coach and train kids from as young as 6 to box and if they want - to compete. The club was established in 2008 and has grown from strength to strength, with now over 120 people per day passing through the door.
We also run classes for children with ADHD and Autism. We have a good working partnership with South Wales Police in running projects to prevent knife crime and engage young people back in to school. We run classes for people with anxiety, depression and dementia both at the gym and on the dementia ward in Llandough Hospital.
We also have a project working with Cardiff Council and the Homeless Service in which Homeless people have a class at the boxing gym followed by lunch and support sessions.
We’ve got an open door policy - no one is turned away and everyone is made to feel welcome and part of our team.
We’ve also this summer put on a Summer Club with over 50 children from 18 different schools across Cardiff attending - they have breakfast and lunch with us and its a free provision!
So as you can see - there is a lot going on - but this is just the beginning for us!!
Thanks for reading! Keep voting!! 🥊

Another great session working in partnership with Cardiff Homeless Service! They really are bringing everything they have got to their training and each have a story to tell!! There were a few missing today - and they will be gutted as they had their new t-shirts for training in!! Great effort guys! See you next week.

Another great week at Summer Club - can’t believe next week is our last week!! This morning we had a visit from Vaughan Gething who is part of Welsh Government! He was really impressed with our club and all the children who attend! He was even more impressed that each week the children help to prepare the lunch we have!! This morning he watched as our helpers chopped onions to go into the Spaghetti Bolognaise!! But seeming as we’re a boxing club there had to be a challenge! First persons eyes to water chopping the onions had to do burpees!! Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week ready for the last week!! 🥊
