On Sunday, the Cardiff Co-Ed team headed to Swindon for the Swings and Roundabouts Tournament, hosted by the Swindon Softball League.
The weather was hot and humid (despite the grey, cooler conditions predicted by various weather apps 😂), and the team enjoyed a fantastic day on the diamonds.
We started strongly, with both the bats and defence on 🔥, securing a 21–6 victory over the Panthers, followed by a 16–11 win against the Oxford Mavericks. In our final group game, the hits slowed down and we suffered a narrow 7–4 defeat to the Reading Bluejays.
Despite the loss, we finished top of our group and 3rd overall out of 12 teams, earning a place in the Magic Cup.
In the semi-final, we faced the Bristol Bees and came out on top with an outstanding 20–8 victory.
The final saw us take on the undefeated KKs. Despite a valiant effort from the team, we unfortunately came up short, losing 16–7. Despite the loss it was a respectable score against an NSL 2 team.
Finishing runners-up in the Magic Cup is a fantastic achievement, and the team should be incredibly proud of the way they played throughout the day. It was great to see new players part of the Cardiff co-ed team as well as welcoming back a familiar face into the Cardiff family.
A huge thank you to all the organisers, both on the day and behind the scenes. Cardiff thoroughly enjoyed the tournament, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.

Cardiff finish as runners up at Swindon Swings and Roundabouts. A great effort to make it to the main final but the KK's just proved to be that little bit stronger.
Well done everyone involved and thank you Swindon Softball for putting on such a great tournament 👏

☀️ WEEK 4 WAS ABSOLUTELY SCORCHING! ☀️
The temperature wasn’t the only thing hitting a blistering 30 degrees at Pontcanna Fields this past Wednesday night—the bats were on absolute fire! Surviving that intense heatwave required pure grit, serious hydration, and plenty of sunscreen.
📰 THE WEEK 4 RECAP: SWELTERING SHOWDOWNS
Pitch 1: Base Invaders 28 - 8 Cardiff Red Sox 🚀
Talk about an invasion! The Base Invaders clearly didn't mind the heat, absolutely exploding at the plate to secure a dominant 28-8 victory over the Red Sox. They found their rhythm in a major way!
Pitch 2: Teirw'r Taf 18 - 10 Red Dragons 🐂
Teirw'r Taf continues to be one of the toughest outs in the league. They managed to cool down the fiery Red Dragons in an 18-10 battle, proving once again that they know exactly how to grind out big wins when the pressure (and the temperature) is on.
Pitch 3: Bats Hit Crazy 12 - 27 Hammers 🔨
The Game of the Week absolutely lived up to the offensive hype! Bats Hit Crazy put up a valiant fight, but the Hammers offense was operating at a nuclear level. Seeking redemption from last week, the Hammers hammered their way to a massive 27-12 bounce-back win.
Pitch 4: Inglorious Batters 14 - 29 Valley Wet Socks 🧦
THE TITANS STRIKE BACK! Anyone expecting the Wet Socks to sweat after a tough week clearly forgot the pedigree of this squad. Winning 3 of the last 4 seasons doesn't happen by accident, and they reminded the entire league of their power and dogedness with a determined 29-14 victory. Although the batters held the lead until late on in the game, the Wet Socks powered through for the win. They are officially on the warpath to reclaim their throne!
👑 HERO OF THE NIGHT: OMAR!
A massive, league-wide shoutout goes to Omar, who braved the M4 and travelled all the way from Bristol just to umpire the chaotic Inglorious Batters vs. Valley Wet Socks game! 🚗💨
Standing out there on Pitch 4 calls for enough concentration on a normal day, but doing it in 30-degree heat after a cross-border commute makes you an absolute legend. The league literally cannot run without volunteers like you—thank you for your dedication, Omar! 🙌☀️
🚰Recovery Mode: Hope everyone has downed a gallon of water and recovered from the heatwave. Rest up those arms, because Week 5 is just around the corner!

🥎 WEEK 4 IS HERE! 🥎
What a wild opening month at Pontcanna Fields!
Before we look ahead to Wednesday night's games, let’s look at the storylines shaking up the league right now:
🔥 The Storylines So Far:
The Hurricane Warning: The Hurricanes are looking absolutely unstoppable, averaging over 25 runs a game after halting the Hammers streak 22-4 last week!
Still Dangerous: The Hammers might have dropped their last game, but they still hold the season's single-game scoring record with an insane 44-14 blowout victory back on May 13th!
The Bounce-Back of the Week: Shoutout to Inglorious Batters, who completely flipped the script last week by putting up a monstrous 39 runs after a couple of tough opening weeks!
📅 THIS WEDNESDAY’S MATCHUPS (MAY 27 @ 6:30 PM)
With 1st and 2nd in the league taking an off week, the league table could look a lot different by the end of Wednesday evening. Here is where the battle lines are drawn at Pontcanna:
Pitch 1: Base Invaders vs. Cardiff Red Sox
Both squads are hungry to find their rhythm and climb the ladder. Expect a gritty, high-stakes battle to spark a mid-season run!
Pitch 2: Teirw'r Taf vs. Red Dragons
Teirw'r Taf won a 19-18 nail-biter in Week 1 but ran into the Hammers buzzsaw in Week 2. The Red Dragons are looking to bounce back from a tough outing against Chaos. Who takes the momentum?
Pitch 3: Bats Hit Crazy vs. Hammers
GAME OF THE WEEK ALERT! 🚨 Bats Hit Crazy is riding high after a dominant 17-1 win over the Wet Socks. Now they face a powerhouse Hammers offense looking to avenge last week's loss to the Hurricanes. Expect absolute fireworks on Pitch 3!
Pitch 4: Inglorious Batters vs. Valley Wet Socks
Can the Batters keep their hot bats alive after dropping 39 runs last week, or will the Wet Socks wash away the memory of their last game and get back on track!
🙌 Grab your gear, bring the energy, and we'll see you all at Pontcanna fields this Wednesday at 6:30 PM! Who are you backing to take home the W? 👇

Who am I reveal!
Week 2's mystery person was of course
Teirw'r Taf captain Zack Williams
Well done to all those who guessed correctly!!
Another swing and a miss for Jamie Dennis ... which isn't unusual 😉🤭
