Today I are mainly walking backwards and forward through a set aside field so that there is a path for you Amberaid runners to follow - because your worth it. Don't worry, I've left enough terrors peppered around the course to keep you alert. Amberaid and Petit Raid on 17th October - 20ish places remaining.

Huzzah, just had confirmation from Severn Trent Water that the contractors working at Lincare will be nowhere near race route on 31st October.....so we have the full and correct route to enjoy, yep a full lap of the reservoirs, or 12 😆
We're expecting good autumnal colours and if we can have the similar still conditions as last year then we're in for a treat.
Talking of which there'll be even more treats on the aid station table. And given it's Halloween you can guess the theme 👻.

Occasionally we get a chance to play away and this last weekend saw Big Cheese take on the Altra 13 Valleys Ultra in the glorious Lake District. Always good to see the events from the other side, pick up ideas, share experiences and ultimately, tick off another big race. Managed it but it was pretty brutal - found myself knee deep in bogs twice and had to endure two full nights (beautiful moonlight throughout) before finishing with very swollen feet 😝. A good event though, very pleased with the finish.

Amberaid and Petit Raid are coming together nicely. The southern loop (Amberaid only) was given a good coat of looking at today. Like an idiot I decided to try and stomp some nettles down whilst I was in my shorts - my legs are still throbbing now 😝. Other than that, all good. There's just the set aside "rewilding" field which heads down towards the railway line at 35km which is a bit tricky. The path through it is quite faint so I'll be doing a few walk up and down sorties in the next fortnight! New gpx files will be on the website in the next 24 hours. Amber Valley awaits you on 17th October.

Regretably we've had to boil a bit of hate out of that final climb on the Amberaid route. Ravensnest is too overgrown and we have been given access to a slightly kinder ascent. We'll update the gpx file shortly but for now feast on these views from the new section (and of course you have to climb to get such views 😆). Amberaid and Petit Raid - 4 weeks today. Amberaid Reccie 1 of the northern section (Petit Raid) done yesterday. Largely the course is in pretty good condition and comparatively few sections that need a trim. Except for the Ravesnest ascent - that bit has got nasty spiky bits and stingy bits in it. Don't worry these will be gone before the race. Planning on doing the remainder of the Amberaid route next week. A week which saw us bid a tearful farewell to Mookie, our trusty working cocker of over 14 years ended with the companionship and willpower of clients from CNA Hardy tackling the 24 Peaks Challenge in the Lake District. Clare and I joined up with our friends at Charity Challenge to support a hardy team of hikers battling the weather and the climbing afforded by this interesting and engaging route. Two 10 hour days saw people earn their appetite and at the same time raise funds for The Trussell Trust, the anti poverty charity. A fantastic two days which neatly showcased the best in people.

Amberaid, our 31 mile trail race around the Amber Valley is arguably our toughest event, it's got a hill or two 😁. The first hill is barely 5 minutes after the start and involves scaling the steps from Ashover up to The Fabric - a wonderful viewpoint featuring Ashover Rock. We'll be out on course checking things over in the next fortnight, we want to make sure that things are "just so" for the runners. If 31 miles is a bit too far then there's always the Petit Raid - 20 miles of the northern section goodness 🤩.
