Looking ahead to next year we've managed to tame the wolf and the Wolf Moon half marathon will once again prove that its bark is worse than its bite on 23rd January. If you've not done one of our "Moon" races before they start mid afternoon so that you are witnessing the sunset and the moon rise on the homeward leg. Fun, tough and a little bit adventurous....with the usual support on course and a feast around a campfire at the finish!
Wolf Moon is limited to 100 runners. It is a fully marked event with glowstick illuminating the final couple of miles.

Thanks to all our lovely runners, Cordwell Colossus has been awarded as Racecheck Gold Award.....for the 3rd year running! It's the first of our events to benefit from such acclaim. Racecheck reviews are incredible sources of info; for you the runner they outline what your peers think of the event, and for Race Directors they give an insight into where improvements can be made. Therefore, for this year's Amberaid and Petit Raid (our next event on October 17th, we have listened to reviews and dropped the self clips as well as making checkpoint 1 a fully loaded set up with sweet and savoury food ๐.
Both Amberaid and Petit Raid can be entered here https://www.sientries.co.uk/event/amberaid-30-trail-race-and-petit-raid-2026

Cordwell Colossus 2026, dust is settling, the excellent reviews are coming in and we're just waiting to see when Barlow Carnival will take place next year before announcing the 2027 Colossus date. Our next race is of course Amberaid on October 17th, will it be as dry or will normal service be resumed (it's only 3 years ago since Storm Babet left parts of the Amberaid course under a metre of water ๐) . Meanwhile a final glimpse t some of Robert Scriven's pics from last week's Colossus.

Quick update on yesterday's Cordwell Colossus 20 mile trail race. Super hot conditions which saw many people toughing it out. Quite a high attrition rate with 7 DNFs and many red bodies at the finish.
Lewis Perkins and Olivia Sawford were our winners. Synchronised performance of the day comes from the DRC trio of Collette, Sue and Lindsey. Theft of the day comes from the dog who ate all the unattended brownies and flapjack!!
Many thanks to all runners, our excellent team of marshals and Holmesfield Village Hall (hope we left you tidy enough!). Big thanks to Derby Runner for providing the race numbers. Robert Scriven was also out on course taking some arty pics of all the suffering - see his work on the First Light Adventure Community page.

Finalising course prep and vegetation cut back the day before always throws in the odd surprise.Today I met Mark G for a wander into Meekfield wood to show where the route markers need to be placed....and we found a new fallen tree (relax there's a way through it). Then discovered Fanshawe Gate road was closed due to asphalt work being undertaken (it will be open tomorrow). At Barlow the road was closed so there's a very narrow diversion to Millthorpe Other than that I encountered deer, buzzard, kite and the blackberries are so delicious and plentiful I can legitimately claim them as a bonus third checkpoint.Cordwell Colossus live streaming begins at 9am tomorrow. Well it would if I knew how to live stream See you then - Big Cheese, Petit Fromage and the First Light Ultra Marshal Platoon (FLUMPS)

Cordwell Colossus had to close early due to reaching capacity. There's still people looking for places and people have until tonight to complete any transfers to another runner. Thanks J and C

Cordwell Colossus flat lay - the Bushwhacker edition ๐. Yep we went into the quarries with the artillery and took it out. Scratchy legs will be minimal this year.
Seriously a couple of weeks ago I was considering whether to go ahead with the Cordwell Colossus next year. It's a lovely route and always gets praised by participants but the numbers were well down. And I still had all this horrendous bramble / thistles / nettle clearing work to do - much of it a fair walk away from a road head.
We're sitting here now a little shell shocked. A third of the entries have been made in the last week. We've had to close the event to new entries this morning.
We've gone from oh well to grinning like fools in 6 days. But it's not helped organisation. There's people contacting us to say they've missed out. We could take more but then it compromises the experience for people - not enough medals and not enough toilets being the main concern (it's too late to order them now).
We know that folk have lost money in the past, what I'd say is always read the T's and C's when entering any race, particularly when it comes to refunds and transfers. We're amongst the most generous around when it comes to refunds. In fact, there's still another 24 hours for people to transfer their entries to someone else if they can't make it next Saturday. You can advertise your place on the First Light Adventure Community on FB.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday

Heroic marshals wanted to help out on the Cordwell Colossus (8th Aug). We've already got a good marshal crew taking part (including Mini Cheddar!) but still on the look out for additional help.
You aren't expected to run (the AI generated pic kinda got that wrong ๐) but having said that running might be part of the equation - just ask Derry when he had to fend a dog off the pizza at checkpoint 2 ๐คฃ.
Seriously, it's a good fun day, an early crossing point might only be 30 minutes duration, later points might be a couple of hours...but it's cracking countryside and the finish is next to a decent pub!!
Shout up if you are free. Cheers J and C

The first countdown email has gone out to all the registered runners. Meanwhile if you've not entered yet there's still time - treat yourself to the great Cordwell views and the most awfully slow sprint finish ever. 20 miles, two packed checkpoints, refreshments at hq, finishers medal all for ยฃ30 - bargain.
