💜 All about Kids, Colchester family festival 💜

💜 Hip Carrying in a Buckle 💜
Here is my next tip for you!
Hip carrying is a great way to help your baby see more, it doesn't have the same restrictions as a forward facing carry, and this method means you can easily switch between a parent facing front carry and a hip carry. Perfect if they fall asleep!
It is also a cooler carry for you as wearer!
You can use this position from around 3/4months, just as they start to become more alert and want to look around. Make sure to tuck their arm back in if they fall asleep though, and as with all positions, keep monitoring and switch it up if you or baby get fussy!
This method can only be done when your shoulder straps are in a X position, so a Tula or Boba for example will not work like this.
👉 First, support your baby and loosen the shoulder straps slightly
👉 Then decide which hip you'd like to move baby to and remove that arm out of the top of the shoulder strap
👉 Move baby round using the waistband (you may find it easier to loosen the waistband slightly, I just breathe in a bit!)
👉 Once you are happy with where baby is sat, tighten the shoulder strap you took your arm out of, by pulling it snug over your back and bringing all the slack round to the front where the tightening buckle is
👉 The other shoulder strap I like to hook over my shoulder, so it doesn't dig into my neck, but you can also tighten this into any position you are comfortable with
And that its! You just reverse this if you want to move baby back to the front 😏

🌞 Carrying in warm weather 🌞
With the expected heat wave coming up next week, I thought I'd share this post a little earlier than usual!
❗️The main thing to remember is to keep checking your baby and to stay hydrated!
⚠️ Don't cover up their heads, this can actually cause an increase in temperature under the cover and baby may start to breathe in used air, never good for anyone!
And if you are ever in doubt, remove them from the sling and get in touch with myself or your local sling library.
I do have a mini workshop coming up on 2nd June, where I shall be discussing this topic, so although too late for this heat wave, get prepared for next time 😊

💜 Stretchy Wrap Shoulder Flips 💜
It isnt uncommon for the wrap to cover your babies face, but we need to be able to monitor them and keep their airways free!
Shoulder flips are one way to do this, and here I show you 4 different methods.
⚠️ With all these methods it is important to make sure that all 3 passes, the bits of material, remain up at the nape of babies neck. This is for support and safety.
1️⃣ When you are spreading the cross pass over baby, grab the opposite edge and pull it through from underneath. This puts a twist in the material, moving it away from the face
2️⃣ After baby is in and the passes have been pulled across, reach under the shoulder material, grab the edge by your neck with one hand and the other edge with the other hand, then pull to flip them. Spread it over your shoulder to help hold it in place - This is a closed flip
3️⃣ Grab the edge of material by your neck and pull it away and over the top, make sure that you dont pull the material down babies back when you do this one - This is an open flip
4️⃣ Grab a piece of wool or soft string, pass it through the shoulder strap and tie it so it cinches the material, moving it away from babies face

💜 East of England Sling Libraries 💜
I often see posts on babywearing groups asking where their nearest sling library is and sometimes I see clients who have traveled really far to see me and it turns out they could have gone to a closer library!
Of course, I never turn anyone away and I do need to make money 😅 But I also know what it is like to have a baby, and a long car drive is not what you want to be doing!!
So I have made a little map of (hopefully) all the sling libraries in our neighbouring counties 😊
It can be hard to find us sometimes, especially if we don't have "sling library" in our name! So check out the map and go find the support you need to carry your babies safely and confidently ❤️

💜 Shoulder straps digging into your neck? 💜
Give this little tweak a go!
👉 Start by undoing both shoulder straps and remove one strap from your shoulder
👉 Make sure you are supporting baby and the panel is pulled up their back and held in place
👉 Now reach behind with your opposite hand to grab the dangling strap
👉 THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT! Instead of just pulling it across to the buckles, pull DOWNWARDS first
👉 Give your shoulder a wriggle as you pull down to help move the slack from the front around to the buckles
👉 Now bring across, clip in the buckle and tighten
👉 Repeat on the other side
