A trip to the southern edge of Bury St Edmunds is always a guaranteed battle. After winning the toss, the home skipper Cook elected to field. A toss which proved a good one to lose.

A rock-solid opening partnership of 77 between Whiteman and Anandraj laid a perfect foundation. Erith (24), Whyte (19), and B. Johnson (15) all chipped in with crucial runs to keep the scoreboard ticking, but it was an explosive set from two stalwarts that did a lot of damage. Moseley played a brilliant cameo of 30, while Carter went into overdrive, smashing a devastating 66 not out to propel CWCCC to a highly competitive 244.

Carter wasn’t done ruining Nowton’s weekend, either. He struck early in the second innings, claiming the vital breakthrough by dismissing opener Selfe. Nowton threatened a serious fightback as Moyle (59) and Cooke (45) rallied to put a dent in the target, but Chappel’s bowling unit refused to blink. The introduction of Erith tore the heart out of the chase with two quick wickets, before Wyatt worked his magic to scalp three Nowton batsmen.
In truth, it was a complete team effort with the ball, every bowler chipping in to dismantle the hosts’ resistance.

The 2XI, who entertained Witham 3XI at The Hobbies, were sadly a few runs shy as they lost by two wickets. Fordham (73) continued his recent form, putting on almost half of the 168 CWCCC. With the ball Jordan 4/32 and Singh 3/59 were the pick of the bowlers. Fine margins as the 2XI rest up for a week.

The 3XI faced a tempestuous match against Great Bromley on Sunday, losing the toss and batting first. After a shaky start, Bryant (17) and F.Macdonald (35) put on a steady partnership. Bryant was looking in good nick until a nasty ball poked fun at his conk - a reminder why lids should be worn. A middle-order collapse was briefly stopped by M.Macdonald (36) as the 3XI ended 164 all out after 30.5 overs.

Defending a small lead, Wilson (only 17 runs off 8 overs) and Mehan opened with an economical spell. Rickett followed up strongly, taking three of the eight Bromley wickets. The 3XI remain firmly in fifth spot, middle of the pack.

This weekend our hardball teams took to the field wearing black armbands in remembrance of Kevin a much-loved player who is no longer with us.

It’s a small but meaningful gesture to honour his memory and the impact he had on everyone around the club on and off the pitch. Moments like this remind us that cricket is more than just results; it’s a community, and some people leave a mark that stays long after they’ve played their last game.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time, and we’re proud of the way our players came together to show respect and unity.

Another Friday, another Kwik Cricket event! 🏏

Tonight Chappel and Wakes Colne Cricket Club took both our beginner and intermediate teams, and both sides put in a fantastic effort. Across the two teams, we came away with 2 wins from 3 games each, showing great progress and plenty of smiles along the way.

A huge well done to all the players for their enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Special mention to the unsung heroes of the evening, our parents and supporters. From lifts and encouragement to helping create such a positive atmosphere, these nights simply wouldn’t happen without you. Your support is massively appreciated. πŸ‘πŸ’™

Onward to next week! πŸ’ͺ🏏

🏏 What a game!

U12 Chappel 286 all out
U12 EAG 285/6

A thrilling one-run victory! Huge credit to the team for battling all the way. A***n top-scored with 25, well supported by Rafe and Stan.

Despite no wickets in the first 10 overs, the pressure told late on. Brilliant work from Raghav and Nihal, combined with three run outs in the final two overs, left EAG needing 3 off the last ball.

But we held their nerve to complete an incredible win. Fantastic effort and a great game of cricket! πŸ‘πŸ’™πŸ
