Another win for the ladies in the Elev8 Series! 🏏💪
Game two of the series brought another victory for CWCCC, this time against a much tougher Dunmow side.
Dunmow put together an impressive 319, with some strong batting throughout their innings. But our ladies stuck to their task brilliantly. The bowling was excellent, with wickets shared around the squad, catches, run outs and some lovely straight bowling all contributing to a really strong team performance.
Then came the reply…
Chappel produced an excellent batting innings, steadily chasing down the target and keeping their heads even as the evening light disappeared. In fact, some of the later stages were played in pretty much complete darkness! 🌙😂
Despite the conditions, the ladies kept going and crossed the line on 334, losing just two wickets in the process.
That’s another win and another really encouraging performance from a squad that is continuing to grow in confidence.
But perhaps the best part came after the game, seeing all the club youngsters together, enjoying themselves and really starting to gel as a team. There’s a brilliant atmosphere developing around this group, and it’s fantastic to see.
2 games. 2 wins. 💪🏏
The future of women’s cricket at Chappel & Wakes Colne is looking very, very good! ❤️💙
A huge well done to everyone involved tonight, what a team effort. JM Finn T&C Site Services Ltd

After back-to-back wins against Frinton 2XI and Walsham le Willows (ooh la la) the 1XI welcomed Long Melford to The Hobbies on Saturday, looking to make it three on the bounce. After winning the toss* Whiteman decided to set his XI loose with the bat.
*Yes. You read that correctly.
This rare feat was clearly playing on his mind as he was trapped lbw for 2 by opener Thomas in the second over. The Melford all-rounder was clearly in the mood adding both Johnson and Irfan to his impressive CV. 26/3 and CWCCC were in somewhat of a pickle.
With Nigel departing for 23 runs a partnership was required. Two of the old guard duly obliged. Carter (43) began proceedings with Moseley, who was keen to cash in. After Carter was C&B, youngster Erith (78) helped carve a delicious 177 partnership with the man of the “Mo-ment” for the sixth wicket. 117* for our wonderful short-armed-short-sleeved Club Captain.
For victory, Melford required 332. And that was going to be a tough order. Miles (7) and Pettitt (9) were both trapped early on by Messieurs Carter and Irfan. Burgess (74) looked in good nick before Erith got his prize scalp, Dow with the ever important catch. And then Whiteman took centre stage. Having finally come to terms with winning a toss (did he stick to tails?) he bamboozled the Melford middle to pick up the first 5fer of the year. Figures of 5-2-7–5 to be etched onto the honours wall. Finally, a special mention to Eves who kept beautifully behind the stumps. Three sharp catches, four byes and a cover up operation for Johnson post match.
The 2XI brilliant run sadly came to an end away at Mistley 3XI. Skipper Jordan chipping in with both ball and bat. A useful five points to keep them in eighth spot.
For the 3XI, their Chief scribe gets more and more creative as the weeks go by. What we’ve managed to deduce is that they played Ipswich away. They came second. Singh, B.Laurie and D.Jones collected 99 of the 148 scored. Lowe grabbed two good wickets on debut. And, the skipper needs to work on his fielding positions (we think).

THE SEMI-FINAL THAT GOT VERY, VERY CLOSE… 🏏🔥
Neutral ground. A semi-final. And enough tension in the air to keep everyone interested.
The Chappel ladies walked out to bat knowing there was everything to play for. Boundaries came early, the running between the wickets was sharp and, for a while, we had Upminster exactly where we wanted them.
But that’s what Semi finals do. It wasn’t going to be easy. Upminster’s bowling was strong, wickets started falling and suddenly our flirtation with a big score became a fight to stay in the game.
Then came the second act.
We took the field with nothing left to lose and we meant business.
Our bowling was fierce. The catches were spectacular. The boundary dives were bordering on reckless. Every run was fought for and every ball had a little more bite.
We pushed them right to the edge, but they squeezed over the line in the final over by just TWO RUNS.
Heartbreak? Absolutely.
Proud? Bloody right.
The final spot belongs to Upminster. But this team left everything out there and that’s something nobody can take away from them.
A massive thanks to Aron, who came out to umpire and somehow managed to remain professional while surrounded by the strong, fearless and seriously impressive Chappel ladies.
The final is gone, but make no mistake…
This lot will be back. 💋🏏🔥 JM Finn T&C Site Services Ltd

🏏💙 Well, well, well… the ladies team strike again! 👏🏏
This time in the Elev8 competition, an 8-a-side introduction to hardball cricket, aimed at clubs like ours who are working hard to get more female players into hardball cricket.
And there’s even more to celebrate… four junior players featured in the team! 💙 It’s a brilliant example of the depth our club is producing and the pathway we’re creating from junior cricket into the ladies’ game.
Against Witham, who like us had a couple of proper hardballers in their side, our bowlers and fielders were absolutely superb.
🏏 Millie kept wicket for the first time ever, and loved it! ❤️
🏏 Marianne, who was very nervous about making the step into hardball, smashed a couple of boundaries! 👀
🏏 All four juniors bowled superbly, helping restrict Witham during the run chase. 💪
A thoroughly deserved win, but actually the result was almost the least important part.
The biggest win was seeing everyone out there enjoying themselves, having fun and giving hardball cricket a go. That’s exactly what competitions like Elev8 are about.
Brilliant stuff, ladies! 💙👏🏏
Next match Kelvedon away 19th.
The future is looking very bright at the Hobbies! 🔵⚪ JM Finn T&C Site Services Ltd

A huge congratulations to Frenford Kestrels on taking the trophy, and a massive thank you to everyone who travelled to support our ladies.
What a journey. What a team. What an achievement. 💙 Church of Bures Seeds JM Finn T&C Site Services Ltd
